    Tech poll.

Had a tech specialist out to fix a monitor this old man scrambled by touching the wrong icon LoL.

How many out there use any of the data from their machines?
He covers a large clientele and he said very very few. I'm the only one he knows who moves it from monitor to computer to look at it.
I don't mean high end zone rate stuff. Just using coverage data and yield data. Trial assessments, insurance. Just downloading data to a software.
    Do 10% here?
Interesting to be reminded that most farmers don't care to know or need to know where the last $20- $100 is.
My bank specialist would confirm that though.

Hmmmm I guess my old shrapnel would require yield monitors, gps, and Ma Nature to cooperate enough to get a crop off without an all out battle. 🍀

Got an old truck scale sitting here awaiting setup and I think that would be useful to know what I’m actually feeding the cows and how they weigh up. Eyeballs can be deceiving at times😉

Very low tech out in the muskeg and hills. Only have old school basic auto steer in the planter, drill, and sprayer. Cows even less………… if they have a live calf they stay till they look old.

    KISS theory fully applied here

    Interesting topic👍

Hey I can relate for sure and you should know that you have a few less headaches.
Here, 90% of the acres I drive by would have new enough outfits to have some type of data collection ability.
We are all spending huge $/ac and few it seems want to know.

Most of our useful data comes from the scale on the grain cart.

Auto steer in field operations is as far as I’ve gotten.

I think these companies pushing all the data collection might be more interested in the data for their own interests. The farmer pays for the hardware and does all the work and as far as I can tell gets bugger all. Auto steer and sectional control is great tech and has made farms more efficient but data collection is just robbery.

Agreed. There are ways to use your data without that.
Soon at the point they'll have the info they want for free like Google and FB anyways.

My old junk has auto steer on the seeding tractor and spraying tractor. I have no interest in much more. Ma’ nature holds the cards and so much of my ground is rough and cut up by slough bluffs not worth clearing. Yes, would be a perfect place to try section control and mapping. I just look at my size, fact I run cattle, and for all the extra hassle and cost where is the extra benefit? Even auto steer isn’t reliable on severe terrain at times. Every guy big and small seed these hills by eye.
