    Electric Metal Production

This is sobering and a reason why the revolution is a long ways off and a very carbon intensive path to get there especially with nuclear being ignored.

This is just electric cars, says nothing about solar panels and windmills and major grid improvements to facilitate the power.

This is exactly the inverse of the original oil discoveries. They were abundant and cheap and not in short supply which facilitated mass market penetration of the automobile.

The electric metal production suggests rapidly raising costs associated with electric vehicle adoption meaning many people will never afford one.

Oil has a lot of heavy lifting to do yet.
    ----

According to Bloomberg, metals like nickel, aluminum, and iron are all expected to see demand increase by 13-14 times between 2019 and 2030. This increase in demand can be directly traced to the outlook for electric vehicles over the next ten years, with vehicle battery output expected to rise by tens of millions. Other metals important to the creation of electric car batteries, such as lithium and graphite, are also expected to rise substantially in demand by around 9-10 times by 2030.

Jazz just think of all the jobs and economic activity with increased demand for metals in the new low carbon economy.

Or are you opposed to increasing demand and now worried about all the environmental impacts of mining? LOL

Biden is planning on spending 2 trillion on infrastructure and reducing carbon emissions with new technology. Surely you are not opposed to all the jobs that will be created?

You can't get people that are out of work in this country to pick apples falling off trees....not enough money in it....how do you think you will be able to get people to work when the government pays them to do nothing???

The mining for what you speak of is slave labour in other parts of the world.

Since when did the exploitation of labour and environmental degradation in the developing world become such a concern of rightwing capitalists? Because it was hardly ever mentioned before the push for clean energy sources.

Are you arguing for higher environmental and labour standards both at home and around the world?

As we've just seen in Alberta, mining is not going to happen in North America, so all of these jobs will happen elsewhere. Under deplorable environmental standards, even worse human rights and labour standards. We will all be stuck with the worldwide environmental legacy of unregulated mining in 3rd world countries. The pro union twits like Chuck will oppose mines to the bitter end ensuring all their high paid union labour jobs go overseas where kids will work for pennies in atrocious conditions.

Anyone taking bets on how soon Biden reverses the legislation the Trump administration made regarding bringing the strategically important rare earth mining and processing back to US soil?

Just try to develop a mine or anything else, there’ll be a Jane Fonda type ready to crawl out from under a rock to kill it. The snowflakes won and North America will turn into Nuttin America.

Its pretty obvious this is only an issue for some people when it involves mining and materials for the transition to a low carbon economy. The rest of the time it doesn't matter and they never bring it up!

There is no doubt that mining for metals and other materials has been a big environmental and human rights issue worldwide for generations.

So what do you propose we do to improve both? Because with or without the move to renewables and electrification the problems will continue.

Are you arguing for higher environmental and labour standards both at home and around the world?

so...... do you think this shit will be mined in Canada?

Some of it for sure and already is. You can read all about the mining industry in Canada here:

                      http://www.canadianminingjournal.com/ http://www.canadianminingjournal.com/

There are new mines for various minerals and metals being developed in Canada. It's just pure bullshit to say new mines will never happen in Canada.

Jazz, you are mistaken. You are depicting a Western Canadian mine. All the new mines will be in real Canada.
