How is my spin idiotic? I simply took the number of deaths from covid in the US and divided by the number of days and the seats on a 737 to see how many plane crashes would have accounted for the same number of deaths. I believe if we were seeing 6 crashes of 737s a day, something would be done to reduce the number of crashes. Doing nothing is not an option in my opinion.

You respond with a meme saying American soldiers were faced with almost certain deaths when in fact the number of deaths from Covid out paces the soldiers death in WW2 except you were so eager to post you did not even fact check the meme to realize that by your comparison of soldier deaths in WW2 Covid is more dangerous than being a soldier.

People are going to die from Covid. The goal is to minimize deaths. So if you want to blame Trudeau for 10,000 deaths fine by me. But than you also have to admit Trump is even more at fault given under his watch more people have died in the world from Covid than anywhere else. Are you willing to admit that?

The death count is suspicious, first issue. Counting any and all types to skew numbers, in every country.

I have never ever claimed virus deaths are on Trudeau. His policies and response were lacking but I would never equate that to him actually killing people. Thats asinine.

But the left has repeatedly made that claim of trump as though he went out and personally killed each and every person even though the governors are the ones in control.

Trump like Trudeau has control of 3 things; access to the country via borders, procurement and distribution of PPE and a moonshot for a the****utic. All other measures are decided at the local level.

So where did Trump fail? Closed the border in Feb, marshaled all supplies including ventilators and distributed them to hot spots and then committed federal agencies and private sector to go after a treatment.

What else would you have him do?

I would hang most of the Covid deaths On the liberals. They knew it was bad. Its been proven in the house on commons that they knew. Yet they still chose to keep the boarder open. They can own it. It all fits in their plan. What bunch of sick ***s they are

Trump shut the border to the Chinese and the Democrats nearly ate him alive. We still have flights all day everyday landing in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary. Guess where the hot spots are but who cares, we’ll just blame it on our own population and keep shutting down our economy. Lunacy exemplified.

Tell the truth! Like he admitted to Bob Woodward that the Covid virus Is very serious and deadly, which he clearly said!

Instead Trump downplayed the risks and wouldn’t wear a mask knowing that telling the American people the truth would hurt his chances for re-election because any further measures to prevent the virus from spreading might hurt the economy more!

His handling of this issue has always been about politics and his reelection! Too bad it’s going to backfire on him!

So I am curious DML where does personal responsibility come into play. Personally I think the danger of COVID-19 is somewhat exaggerated, having said that I have minimized my trips to town and I take hand sanitizer with me when I go to town. Why is everyone blaming politicians, can we not take personal responsibility for our own actions? I don’t run my daily routine based on what a politician says. Is Trump less than intelligent, in my opinion yes. But he didn’t design and build the U.S. medical system, he didn’t personally make a high percentage of Americans overweight, he didn’t make Americans sit on their butts in front of some form of electronic screen. Could he have taken the pandemic more seriously? Certainly. The biggest problem I see is that for some reason we think government can and should have the answers, elected officials are really no more clairvoyant or intelligent than the average person, they just have a larger opinion of themselves! The biggest problem today is the average person can’t solve their own problems!!

Would herd immunity stop the spread of coronavirus?
Even if achievable, the strategy would kill too many people, say scientists

                          https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/oct/11/would-herd-immunity-stop-the-spread-of-coronavirus https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/oct/11/would-herd-immunity-stop-the-spread-of-coronavirus

"As they point out, only 8% or so of the British population has been infected with the Covid-19 virus. “To get to herd immunity we would need that to reach around 70%,” said Sir Robert Lechler, president of the Academy of Medical Sciences. “Not only are we a huge way off this but we now know that immunity to Covid-19 decreases over time, and that people can be re-infected with the virus.”

For this reason, scientists argue that it is very unlikely that herd immunity could be sustained without a vaccine or regular reinfection. More to the point, if attempts were made to achieve herd immunity by lifting lockdown restrictions, there would be a vast increase in excess deaths, mainly among the old and the vulnerable. NHS services would be overwhelmed while high numbers of “long Covid” cases would have long-term consequences even for those who suffer only mild initial symptoms."

                            Huh?

Please explain how seniors in nursing homes and assisted living and others with compromised health are supposed to solve their own problems when it comes to avoiding covid 19? Its pretty difficult to avoid the risk factor of aging don't you think!

Are you suggesting that the rest of us shouldn't play a role in keeping them safe by avoiding spreading covid 19 to the vulnerable by following guidance from public health officials?

                                Excellent post as usual Hamloc.
And what you say about personal responsibility Holds true for so many things nowadays.

So many people expect the government to hold their hands and have all the answers. So that they don't have to take any responsibility for their own actions and willfull ignorance.
Some excellent examples of that right here Montmagny bill today even.

All people, even in the highest positions of authority are still fallible biased, non impartial, and don't have infinite knowledge. Some gullible people still look to them as if they are some sort of sooth seeing diety.

No wonder cults and religions and socialism are all as popular as they are.
