New add Campaign warns Ottawa farms need a level field. West Groups silent.

The Ontario Farm groups joined the Atlantic and Quebec calling on Ottawa to level the playing field with the USA.

Imputs are the same on both sides of the boarder or higher in Canada yet farmers are forced to compete with Zero help from Ottawa.

All the Easter Farm Groups have joined the effort.

THe western Groups sit in perDiem Meetings discussing how to set up the next meeting and do jack shit as always.

Come on Western Canada Shit or Get off the pot.

Read aboutyour farm lobby groups with interest.
Seems at times a toothless tiger.

Quite strong in oz our farm advocacy groups.

Locally we have a grain producers group, livestock group and hotriculture/winery guys.

Policy if need be thrashed then state groups join and things of national interest are lobbied.

Also a some of above board have members on national groups.

Rolling member ship dont think you can stay for more than 4 years so it doesnt become a old boys club of broken don single deskers clinging to the past. Quite modern and vibrant and common sense.

Chemical legislations, frieght transport regulations, access to ports by all buyers, research and development, environmental red tape, logical rational arguments regarding climate change and farming, modifications to gun laws this is stuff they fight for.

Meetings held periodically across the year always well attended.

See snippetts from western producers about bemoaning loss of single desk by some organization there, just doesnt get airplay here.

Seems alot of you are not members of such organizations over there.

Maybe our farm lobbying is one thing we do better than you guys but yourxahead on alot of others.

        They are called meeting addicts....

Norm Hall....Terry yowza...etc ...they like meetings to do nothing...

These are the guys running for saskpulse after doing nothing in their other roles....

        Their incompetence precedes them....

If they get elected you can be assured it will be a shitshow. ..

What did they do sitting at the table with government in their previous roles and look where farmers are today....it speaks volumes.

They are likely upset the winter farm shows are being canceled so they cant meet up for steak and whiskey meetings and pump their chests out on how important they are.

Bucket goodtime our representatives are looked up to and respected im not shitting ya.

Sounds like youve got a bunch if dills professional board members so to speak.

The above mentioned group were active in our single desk debate first vote i think was about 55% innfavour of change and 45% against.

The lobby group said well thats not unanimous mork work and debate ensued inthink over two years another vote take and neccesary protocol safeguards standards suggested implemented before single desk was ditched. Next vote was pretty sure it was 78% for change 22% against.

That was enough to then move foward with changes to marketing structures here, wasdone in a logical democratic way.

Only very few farmers not members

As an unwilling member of one of those "accredited" and stable-funded farm groups, I remain deeply skeptical of their ability or ambition to perform or drive any meaningful outcome.

The only group that has actually taken the bull by the horns is the Grain Farmers of Ontario (GFO), as their videos previously posted here indicate.

The GFO is now starting to make noise about the extremely punitive impact that the Clean Fuel Standard act is going to have on grain farmers.

One piece of the policy is that there will be no grain accepted for ethanol production if it was produced from a buffer zone along/around watercourses or wetlands, perhaps other protected natural features. And the farmer is responsible to prove that it meets the criterion.

In another twist- if you have cleared as little as 1/2 hectare of land in the past decade (or close to that, not exactly sure) NONE of the grain produced on that farm will be accepted into the ethanol stream for the CFS.

With such policy poised to affect as much as 30% of the grain produced in Ontario, one would think that the farm orgs would be more than a little perturbed by the CFS.

But nope, not one peep. Perfect gentlemen. A bunch of eunuchs. Clean up nicely. Fine suits. Good tastes. Nice nails.

Only the Grain Farmers of Ontario have had the guts to make noise.

Any policy that penalizes land clearing should be opposed by all our farm groups. Most of the land that now grows canola was once cleared, this will be another policy that will penalize the same farmers that are now spending a fortune on a carbon tax to dry grain.

                    Absolutely agree.
The carbon tax has been consistently and repeatedly opposed by all farm groups except the NFU.
The fact supported opposition has been repeatedly taken directly to the liberal MPs; they will not listen. Bobo said it’s insignificant
The effort has been and is still there. What other strategies are suggested here?

It’s actually even worse than just silence from Western groups. Initially they were working together with GFO on fixing the clean energy policy. At some point someone apparently convinced Sask Canola and others that the policy on clearing land would disproportionately hurt eastern corn and soybean growers and eastern ethanol and biodiesel and thus would be GOOD for western prospects for biodiesel and the western groups stabbed GFO in the back and turned in favour of the government policy. So your western groups are in fact now working against GFO on this and also on BRM.

Which is a large part of why GFO withdrew its membership from Grain Growers of Canada back in the spring and started focusing east instead

David Marit may be more stupid than Lyle Stewart as an AG minister...

Marit has liked meetings his whole life as well...

I agree these meeting hounds are the guys who go on to try politics etc. But when the Eastern Farmers get it and the Western Farmers don't Houston we have a problem.

I don't think the guys at APAS have learnt how to tie their shoes yet.....

If they present a report to government...it just gets ignored....
