Sep 23, 2020 | 14:53 1 Words and meanings – It is what we all look for in a throne speech. From an agricultural and farm standpoint, this was ultra disappointing. Here is the scorecard:

The word: Agriculture:

Farm:

(1 time)

When the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration was closed by a previous government, Canada lost an important tool to manage its waters. The Government will create a new Canada Water Agency to keep our water safe, clean, and well-managed. The Government will also identify opportunities to build more resilient water and irrigation infrastructure.

Farmer:

1) The Government will also ensure that those in Canada’s supply managed sectors receive full and fair compensation for recent trade agreements. Farmers keep our families fed, and we will continue to help them succeed and grow.

2) And recognize farmers, foresters, and ranchers as key partners in the fight against climate change, supporting their efforts to reduce emissions and build resilience.

Out of control spending and this is what you get on the farm…Only in Canada

-A multi billion dollar sector with zero voice. Reply With Quote

Not quite........... if you’re an irrigating dairy farmer it seems as though someone is looking out for ya. Reply With Quote
Sep 23, 2020 | 23:40 7 It's complacency ....and incompetence from our farm groups and leaders....

They will be just beside themselves for dairy and irrigation funding....

What percent of farmers is that?

Todd Lewis has endorsed the irrigation gift to 300 farmers while ignoring the 40000 he supposedly represents....idiot. ..and incompetent....

But I think it's because farm leaders don't understand the numbers very well....daddy is probably still in control at the farm and they hire accountants for idiot junior.

It's disheartening to see farmers argue about EV and BLM or worse yet Biden/Trump ...who will both support farmers..... while there are 40 boats at the west coast waiting for grain....

Yes I get caught up in mindless threads as well. ...but the eyes are still on the ball...

    Pissed....yup....surprised no....

Now back to the regularly scheduled program. ...

  • Sep 24, 2020 | 07:18 8 Again I think we need one federal entity to speak for producers, just like the Farm Bureau does in the states. It takes all the concerns of the producer groups and lobbies on behalf of farmers. It is a very very powerful lobbyist in Washington. It always has the ear of the government no matter if it is Republican or Democrat. Reply With Quote

It would certainly be better than the current inept, conflicting mishmash we have. But without the electoral system the US has, which puts significant voting power into rural and low population states, and therefore farmers, there would still be no reason for Ottawa to ever head the concerns of farmers, no matter how united their voices, or powerful their lobby efforts. There is no political points to be gained or lost by pandering to farmers. Elections will still be won or lost in a few concentrated urban areas. Reply With Quote
Sep 24, 2020 | 08:29 10 That is partially true, I think if we had one powerful lobby group that not only represented us as grain and livestock producers, but also represented the supply management side they would be able to, for lack of a better word, blackmail federal ag by forcing certain policies for us if supply management wants other things. I know I didn't word that right, but we know they cater to the supply management side. Reply With Quote
Sep 24, 2020 | 08:36 11 Just hire the supply management guy that has the pictures and videos..

Or pay him for a copy and hire someone better than Todd Lewis.....Jeff Neilsen etc ....these guys are meeting addicts....

And don't put guys like Norm Hall or Terry Yzowza on boards where their ineptness precedes them. Reply With Quote
