Ontario’s Associate Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Barbara Yaffe warned against mass testing for the COVID-19 China coronavirus, saying it takes resources from other needed areas and does not “actually achieve anything.” Dr. Yaffe also said that in areas with low incidences of COVID infection, the rate for false positive test results is “almost half.”

Yaffe said testing should be reserved for suspected cases, people with symptoms and their contacts.

“You know, I think a lot of people think that testing is going to really solve the whole problem, and it isn’t. It’s one component of a response. If you test somebody today, uh, you only know if they’re infected today. And in fact if you’re testing in a population that doesn’t have very much COVID, you’ll get false positives almost half the time. That is the person actually doesn’t have COVID, they have something else, they may have nothing. Uh, so it will just complicate the picture.”

“On the other hand, if we have evidence of a case, even a suspect case in a school, all the contacts of that case be it a child or teacher would be tested. Regardless of whether they’re symptomatic or not. That is something we’ve learned with COVID, it’s very important to do that. That is when we might be identifying people who are asymptomatic and infected that need to um, stay home and uh, wait ’til they’re cleared by Public Health. Doing testing on all the teachers would be a huge amount of resources taken away from the need for quick, um, access to testing when somebody may be symptomatic.”

“We also need to do screening for symptoms. And everybody needs to be educated about the symptoms to look for and not go to work if you’re sick, go, not go to school if you’re sick. Those are the things that are important along with hand washing, distancing, masking, all the things we’re talking about. Testing will not actually achieve anything other than take resources away from other places they need to be.”

  • Aug 1, 2020 | 22:52 3 The only thing we really know is that we don’t know enough about this virus. I m very worried about my daughter teacher and so is she. Absolute morons to think what’s happenning with the hutterites isn’t going to happen when you put kids back to school. Kids are kids they will innocently be themselves fighting, hugging, playing, picking their noses etc etc
When the first kid dies I ll
Be the first to ask those of you downplaying this what you think now. It’s going to happen.
But hey there is an election to win let’s all feel good.

Testing is the only way to slow things down it isn’t perfect I think just as many false positives as there are false negatives since this virus I don’t think reacts or reveals itself the same in every person. That’s the factor that everyone agrees on yet don’t want to admit or out enough weight on. Reply With Quote
Aug 2, 2020 | 00:24 4 Kids gotta go to school. We already have enuf morons in this world. This virus is gonna spread around whether we like it or not and people are gonna die whether we like it or not. Just nature moving on. I don’t want anyone to die but we can’t continue on the path of the so called experts who don’t really have a phucken clue what to do anyway. Reply With Quote
Aug 2, 2020 | 01:26 5 People are going to die. Taking precautions slows the inevitable result so the medical system isn’t inundated that it can’t treat all the other regular maladies. Scary is how this virus buggers up people in differing ways. Bunch of people chronically sick and damaged from this virus, unable to work in some cases, bigger drain on the medical system. In warfare you kill your enemies they’re buried, end of story. Maim your enemies and the enemy is weakened more taking care of the wounded. Geez this got me thinking about something now. fjlip's Avatar Aug 2, 2020 | 08:28 6 In Sask we have been consistently 98% plus negative tests. So WHAT were those unwell of? Just a cold? Never an answer from anyone on that question. Correct even the EXPERTS don't understand. And if negative today you could be positive tomorrow! Let's test everyone every day! Total sh*t show.

Aug 2, 2020 | 08:39 7 Coming soon to a town near you - nearly total crackdown on movement:

"Melbourne placed under curfew, five-kilometre limit on travel

With high levels of community transmission, including 760 current "mystery cases" in Victoria with no known source of infection, drastic steps were necessary

Metropolitan Melbourne becomes the first region in Australia to be placed under Stage 4 restrictions.

The most significant of these is a curfew enforced from tonight, with residents barred from leaving their homes between 8pm and 5am.

During these hours, the only reasons to be outside of your home are to give or receive care, or go to and from work.

Outside the curfew, people will only be allowed to leave the house for four reasons: purchase food and and necessary supplies, exercise, give or receive care, or work.

“Going to a mate's place, visiting friends, being out and about for no good reason, all that will do is spread this virus,” Mr Andrews said.

Additionally, residents will no longer be able to travel further than five kilometres from their home, unless the reason is to give or receive care.

Only one person per household will be allowed to go shopping once per day, though caregivers and those assisting elderly residents are exempt. People will be able to bring dependent children with them if they are unable to leave them unattended at home.

The five-kilometre limit won’t apply to shared custody arrangements or those visiting intimate partners. The limit also does not apply for those going to work, while those studying must do so at home.

Under Stage 4 restrictions, residents of metropolitan Melbourne will be able to exercise outside once per day for up to one hour within a five-kilometre radius of their home......

People will able to exercise in groups no bigger than two, ...
Recreational activities including tennis, golf and fishing are also banned.

"No golf, tennis, kicking the football or the soccer ball around," said Mr Andrews...

Funerals remain limited to 10 mourners...

But from Thursday, weddings will be banned unless an exemption is granted on compassionate grounds.

Religious ceremonies and worship service will be limited to five people.

Any Victorians found to be breaking the new regulations will be served a $1,652 fine.

The cancellation of some overnight public transport services means there will be increased police presence to enforce the new measures.

'If you are not complying, you are going to be pulled up on it. You will be asked and if you don't have the right answer, you can't justify the choices you have made, then you will be fined," the premier said."

    Trial balloon?

What's going on down under, Mallee?

I'm not so sure about that. Keeping children away from the socialistic indoctrination centers for a while longer might be the best thing that could happen to society. Is long as they don't sit at home watching CBC.
Might Just avoid raising an entire generation Chuck's.
It is never too late to learn reading, riting, and rithmatic(except in chuck's case, he seems to have given up on the first and third), but undoing indoctrination of impressionable young minds is infinitely harder to do later in life, see Chuck as a prime example. Reply With Quote

    - only government, big pharma, and WHO-approved scientists are allowed to speak
    - thousands of other drs. and scientists are silenced
    - "virology politics" prevails
    - positives do not indicate that the virus detected is that which causes the WuFlu

If we have a billion dollars for a bull crap volunteer student program. We likely have billions more for some other feel good indoctrination crapola.
Maybe, just f k n maybe, we could spend that money to give our schools and health system the resources to get the hell going. And I don't mean administration, which is where extra funds are always "lost". I mean boots on the ground.
I've got a kid who needs access to both and is getting none. Zero. A lost year for him. Reply With Quote

BP follow the messages and the actions. We were told we cant overwhelm the health system, seniors need to be protected blah blah. $350B was spent on this. Did you hear any single announcements about new health care funds or new hospitals or money for seniors only care homes?

Some people just cant wake up to what this really is. Reply With Quote

  • Aug 2, 2020 | 17:01 14 Going to be interesting to see how Sweden comes out of this in the medium to long term.

They didn't shut down but tried to protect the vulnerable.

No general mask recommendation. I'm not even sure they did the social distancing?

The have similar numbers to their neighbors and may now have some immunity.

Some suggestion that locking down moves everyone indoors where the spread is the greatest.

Saw on the CBC last week the deaths under 30yr number in the hundreds in the USA.

Like less than 200 of the 150000.

    Kids are virtually immune.

Don't give us fear, give us facts. Reply With Quote

Aug 2, 2020 | 19:17 17 If people don't want to send their kids to school then don't. The teachers that don't want to teach because they feel its too dangerous can quit their jobs. Problem solved. Whats so hard about that. Imagine a society of kids down almost 2 years of school. China wins again. Reply With Quote
