People smarter than me are questioning....

The 4 billion waste of money on more government funded irrigation....

Its great when an engineer publicly questions the 4 billion....with questions like

""""If you're not in those geographic areas, you're definitely out of luck. You know, a farmer in Yorkton or Nipawin isn't going to get a benefit from this project," Halliday said """"""

and I really like this one

"""""Government officials say the project will pay for itself through jobs and economic activity growing high value table vegetables,88 per cent of all current irrigated land in Saskatchewan is used for low-value, high volume cereal crops."""""

Its important to remember the current 100,000 acres of irrigation currently still funded by the government to the tune of 200 dollars an acre are not growing any meaningful amount of higher value crops.

""""" the project will help only the small minority of farmers who live along the proposed routes and that most of the province's 40,000 farmers will see no direct benefit"""""

Bob Halliday is an engineer and smarter than Lyle Stewart or Scott Moe.

A province that raised taxes to an exorbitant level because of reduced resource revenue, cut public transport, lacks programs with respect to autism and senior care; this is the government that just finished frittering away billions on fancy overpasses, a stadium that is underused and now decides to waste another 4,5,6 Billion. What government! Its sad we have no opposition.

Like I said in another thread, this money should have been spent on twinning number 16 and adding modern rest stops, P.A needs another bridge, number 7 should be twinned. There is no shortage of road infrastructure that needs work, that benefits every person in this province. Somewhere along the way the Sask Party has lost the Sask out of their name, they seem intend on focusing on individual areas and not the whole province. As mentioned there is no real opposition in the province, not that we can afford to have such a left leaning NDP party back in power, but do remember there is still a Conservative party in Sask. I readily admit I know nothing about the leader or even if they have many members. This Sask party has lost their direction and I knew that would happen when they elected Scott Moe as leader, this was the guy who effed up the environment portfolio and water drainage.

There is so much more that would have far better economic returns to the taxpayer than this nonsense.

You want to irrigate....write the cheque...

How about 3 year averages on yield for crop insurance....or a bump up in coverage with reduced rates based on fertilizer...

How about just acknowledging the fact farmers in this province are hurt by the american subsidies and should have a better BRM...

The interest on the 4 billion would have been a start to helping all farmers instead of a select few that are closet socialists.
