I too am beginning to see more freelance farm equipment mechanics set up mobile units or work out of their or their customer's shops.

That's all well and good but when certain proprietary technology needs to be accessed that is only available to dealerships from parent companies....brick walls can be hit trying to complete some repairs.

The mechanical, hydraulics and such basic stuff is manageable, but when you need to access the "central nervous system" there might be a problem.

Anyone ever get burned by a freelance mechanic that wouldn't stand by their work? Or is spread so thin that you can't get your equipment repaired in a timely fashion.

Do what you can yourself and rely on the dealership for the stuff that's beyond your capability or skill-set.

We have a real good relationship with the dealership that matches the brand of equipment we have most of in our line. Mind you dropping gobs of cash in their dealership might "buy" some of that customer appreciation, lol.

A small fry like me even gets day service out of South Country.

Last independent guy didn't want my business until I had 3 or more combines to work on.

Point taken we have a young guy here locally and yep doesn’t wok on ultra modern latest and greatest refuses to warranty etc etc but anything 10 ya old o more he’s good.

Reason worked at a stealership from 16 ya old till 25 was on $18 per hour after hours work etc farmers had to pay time and a half o double he saw none of it. So quit, charges $45 per hour does a top job.

Also certain or actually a lot of pats he sources are non genuine for at times 50% cheaper, but always gives option genuine or aftermarket
