You did notice another entire city of the size of regina can fit inside it? Little bit of overkill swinging 6 miles out of the existing city limits.

They probably said the same thing when the first ring road was made around Regina...lets see if the phuck it up by building right up against it like they did on Victoria avenue east....Had they left the space for more traffic and did better city planning the bypass wouldn't have been needed....

But lets review this in a few years when its congested....

Just remember if the ndp was in charge you definitely would not need bypasses anywhere.

We come into Regina off Highway 48 onto #1 east of Regina.

We were headed to Lumsden the other day and for shits and giggles we thought we would take the new bypass all the way around to the #11. That is a long way around. We knew we could have done it quicker going through the city but wanted to just try it anyway.

Yup, it seems far from the south side of the city. But the bypass is already basically against the east-south-east and west-north-west sides.

I sure like the ones east of Regina. Improved traffic flow. Except getting into the business district of Emerald Park White City and residential area(South of #1 highway between #48 Hiway and Pilot Butte overpass from the west bound lane of the #1 is a bit of a cluster****. The area is only accessible from the Pilot Butte overpass or just south of the highway 48 overpass.

The Pilot Butte overpass is an odd one too, directing traffic to the left side of the usual driving side of the road must have some benefit than just keeping everyone to the usual right side of the road.....they're controlling traffic with lights up there anyway...must have something to do with more traffic making left hand turns on that overpass. Cliche, you can hardly see the road for the traffic signs and traffic lights up there.....its a forest of traffic signs. It might be a bit confusing for first time users but once you're familiar with it, its ok.

That would assume Regina growing to 600,000 people to meet up with that bypass.

Very large cloverleafs would have done everything without traffic lights....

It was a lot of money spent and there's probably a bit of overkill, but it does help traffic flow from what was a cluster**** getting off the Ring Road and to Vic east. That mess was a result of poor or no planning, letting business build right up to the roads so there's no room to even add a lane. As one EMS guy from east of town said on TV it reduced the number of serious accidents out there to almost nil. I think they got carried away with all the bypasses at Pinkie and #1 - the "intermodal hub" has been mostly a bust so truck traffic isn't near what they planned for.

Of course the NDP criticize it and any project conservatives have made over the years including Rafferty-Alameda dams, rural natural gas, etc. That's why this province is 50 years behind the times, they had no vision for the province other than turn it into a welfare state.

Would you rather it be built like Saskatoon's Circle drive?

Perimeter in Winnipeg used to be way out there, now the city is around it. It's called planning...

Haven't been on the bypass, but this shouldn't even be a question. Every US, and EU, hell most cities in other parts of the world have bypasses.

Regina is turning into a giant donut, everybody and businesses trying to get into the outer ring, everyone else stuck in the middle.

Regina will never ever see half a million people. 300 is possible but that bypass still over built even for that. Could have shaved 20 miles off it and built a hospital and a couple high schools instead. Somebody has a vision of this city that doesn't exist in reality. Just like the GTH and stadium.

We use the new by-pass all the time but could take it or leave it. Would I rather have flashy by-passes and over-passes or 3 billion dollars? Was it necessary? Guess if you’ve got some one elses money to burn you can build a useless global transportation hub and several monstrous concrete loops BUT the trains still run through the city and across the by-pass. WONDERFUL.

Biglentil, think about all the carbon you spewed making an extra 30 miles. Good job!
