I remember the first year of the Western Canadian Farm Progress shows way-way back. It was fun and exciting with new equipment. Hell the Steigers with new tec. The Big Roy. The Rotary Combine ETc. Etc.

But something happened and it can all be traced back to the City of Regina and the Exhibition Association.

See we had a really good summer Exhibition. Something like the Calgary Stampede. With Pemican Pearl and the guy on the Buffalo. It was a theme.

But wait the idiots thought that just doesn't work in backwards Regina. Let's think out of the box no one wants that old shit.

Well, it is now like the companies that come to the mall parking lot and have a summer fair.

Blank stare in the eyes of the Exhibition Association. Why is no one coming anymore? But lets put out a press release it's so excellent.

Now the powers that be have almost put a nail in the coffin of the Farm Progress show. Why For one high cost getting the equipment to the show. City charges for private police (off duty or retired at 3x wage to escort the equipment into the city. It's not NewYork it's just off the ring road a two-lane highway at 6 am has like what 4 cars.

One company I know said it cost them somewhere around $40,000.00 to go. They sold out so watch the new guys won't do it.

So the city is to blame. Want people to come but then rip the total shit out of them.

Parking is a shit show. Oh, build downtown they will come. Yea that works.

Now the exhibition association is also the problem. Workers that snooping around your booth after hours.

Rules that make no sense. Being told when entering a building at 4:30 you better hurry fast through because we close at 5:00. Like its a show who cares if we take till 5:10 to leave. Attitude is awful. Someone said 300 fewer exhibitors.

But the real problem is the board. They see a future show with more buildings selling Sham Wow for the women and less machinery. They wiped out the old tractors and parade that went almost since day one. No one wants to see that stuff its old this is a modern show. Look back up to thinking out of the box in Backwards Regina.

You can brag on the news that visitors came from all over the world and lots of business was done but the reality is your killing a once great farm show.

I said it would be done in three years a year ago. I predict by this time next year it will be done.

Thank a bunch of fools who really shouldn't be running a lemonade stand.

Yes, Ag In Motion is taking over and destroying high-cost Regina. But hey they still run a great Show in Fargo called Big Iron or a great exhibition in a little centre called Minot. Wonder why Regina Can't get its shit Together.

Oh, Regina international airport. Ah, you have to go to Calgary or Toronto to get out or into here.

Have a great day were at the show. One last kick at the can.

You know once upon a time people wanted to bring stuff to these shows. Talk to farmers. Hell, you ever figure out why chem companies quit going. It's right after spray season or just in spray season and they hated getting shit from farmers.

Its the new attitude doesn't hurt or give us heck just buy our overpriced shit.

Sort of like the paper I signed for flea beetle problems and respray. It was all about protecting the company not working with the farmer.

They have an expensive product seed treatment that didn't last jack shit for days. Enter Tony merchant with class action lawsuit. So here is your chemical to spray on the crop to help with your loss its 1/2 price or free but sign this release form. Ah, easy pickings like shooting fish in a barrel.

My point is it maybe it has lasted 40 years but companies and Regina Exhibition are not getting along and the show might not make its 41St.

Lets put the show on the same day as everyone is in the field trying to spray. That will really bring em in.

By the time I am done seeding and spraying I am sick of the farm and want to get away. Same thing with Agribition. After usually slogging away on a late harvest last thing I want to think about is farming.

I agree with both of you.

Yes after slugging it out seeding and spraying and waiting for rain its tough to go look at shit. I use it as therapy talking and joking with companies people. See the odd new thing and its a day off.

Yes, Ag in Motion is huge and getting bigger. One bad rain storm and it will be slip slide away. But I have been too large USA shows. They are amazing. Brother in law did the German show and a cousin of mine from Germany wants me to attend that one he says it's out of this world.

Free beer wow who knew. Hostesses showing you tractors. I'll take 4.

But I remember as a young man going and seeing Big Roy the first time. Or crawling into a Steiger or climbing into a rotary combine and Big Buds. Wilfs water canon that could send everything flying. (Almost bought it a couple of years back the prototype).

It was an exciting time for farming.

This is about how the city of Regina screwed things up with no idea how things should be done. Again check out our international airport. HAHAHa, direct to calgary. No more denver, Minneapolis or Chicago.

Still can get to phoenix or Orlando. That's all that matters. But to get to Calgary its a shaky turbo prop. Used to be 2 jets a day going in there.

I couldn't care less if I don't get there. Every year isn't necessary. Never know from one year to the next whether I'm going or which day if I do decide on going.

I find all the machinery there is getting too small for my lofty aspirations anyway......sandbox toys. When are they going to start making bigger stuff that suits my ego and operation?

Only went about every 5th year.
An ideas trip , to see what was new.

Half of it is who really wants to go to Regina anyway?
With Ag in motion now .
There is no good reason to ever go to Regina again ..Yeah
                  Maybe for a funeral ,
                  That would be about it.

Best part is they made it so you can go around regina instead of going into it....They should move the FPS to south of the city between #1 highway and the bypass....and buy the land for the stadium they will be building in 30 years at taxpayers expense as well...

If there is anything left in Saskatchewan when Trudeau and Moe are done...A fencing steeple has more value...

Never been to fps but raced horses there and couldn’t get over how cramped and rundown that place was. This was 17-18 years ago. What a job to roll a semi load of horses in there. Can’t imagine dragging an airdrill in there. Heard rumblings back about agribition looking for a new home but that was a while back. Even farmfair at Edmonton is a shadow of its former self. There is an increasing disconnect between rural and urban. A lot of these exhibitions boards are populated increasingly by people with less knowledge of agriculture and rodeo. Their idea of an ag related event is a petting zoo. I shit you not. Even the Calgary stampede is going that way. In the next 10 years a lot of these big centres’ ag and rodeo events will disappear and be replaced with dog and pony shows.

Been to Regina show 3 times in my life.
                          Spray season.
Really, farming has changed a lot in those years. Trade shows needed to change too. County fairs long gone. Regina show a dodo.
If I'm researching a purchase, there's too many zeros involved to be bothered with bullshit.
Got tired of being treated like a 'farmer' long ago.

Kinda going off track from the thread title here but the Calgary Stampede comment stirs up thoughts. The "big four" started an ag event of rodeo and stock show, has now become a temporary amusement park at best. Livestock has almost completely disappeared, other than a couple on display pens. City pretty much shuts down for 2 weeks, cant hardly do business, everyone completely excited about the chance to dust off their cowboy hat and boots, but is just about rides and booze, connection to agriculture pretty much lost. Used to be great stock show. Rodeo still doing well but very commercialized.

The rodeo and wagon races went to a purely invite format a while back. They pick whom they think will draw the best and won’t cause problems. It’s so canned to a trained eye. Glad we got out before this went down.
