Wow! Canada Optimistic On Ending China Canola Ban this year!

Wow, this came out Friday from our leader JT doesn't it make you feel warm and fuzzy to keep farming.

Canada is optimistic it can make progress this year in talks to persuade China to allow imports of Canadian canola seed to resume, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Friday, even as tensions between Ottawa and Beijing reach new highs.

Trudeau spoke hours after an industry group said Chinese importers had stopped buying Canadian canola, adding that purchases from the major customer were not expected to resume anytime soon.

“We’re going to roll up our sleeves and work with the Chinese officials to demonstrate that canola should continue to flow safely from Canada to China,” Trudeau said. “This is something we take very seriously .. we are optimistic we are going to be able to make headway this year".

My god why does he say that roll up our sleeves is that to make us think he actually works or knows what he is doing. Maybe our AG minister can stop tasting wine and looking at chicken farms and Dairy.

Canola futures ended sharply lower on Friday, with pressure coming from a statement from the Canola Council of Canada that China had stopped buying. May plummeted $14.30 to $453.90, July was down $14.10 to $462.50 and new-crop Nov. lost $14.10 to $474.80.

The market knows is all we are told and I would say they figured it out were screwed. Even some no Bids on Friday.

Canada's canola situation seen as dire. The concern is that seed is not moving at an average pace, says DTN. Over the past 10 weeks, the average weekly movement through licensed facilities (week 24 through week 33) is the lowest seen over this period in four years at 163,250 tonnes. The average weekly shipments over the past four weeks are even lower at 132,975. Should this 10-week average volume be extended over the remaining 19 shipping weeks, total licensed exports would total 9.1 million tonnes.

It made the news in the USA and guess what they will take advantage of us with the USA/China Trade deal that is just about done.

Don't bet on Trump not looking out for his own country. Over the weekend it was found that he had nothing to do with Russia with the election like the Democrats have been blabbing since he won. MAybe he has it figured out, I think he does and will win in 2020 again. Canada will be worse than Mexico by then. Damage like this cant be fixed and Trudeau and the liberals are to blame.

There isn't an ounce of science behind the trade spat.

Prairie farmers are in a bind since Chinese importers announced they will no longer buy canola seed from Canada, John Guelly, the chair of the Alberta Canola Producers Commission, told CBC's Radio Active on Friday. "It's definitely not good," said Guelly. "Farmers in the area and across the prairies have a lot of grain still in the bin," he said, "and even though it may have been contracted, it may not be able to be delivered for a while because we don't have an end home for it."

Canola fund short position continues to grow. Fund traders remained on the short side in the ICE Futures canola market during the week ended Tuesday, adding to their large net short position, according to the latest from the U.S. CFTC. According to the latest report, managed money and other reportable speculators increased their net short position in canola by roughly 3,000 contracts, to 58,631, during the week ended. Tuesday.

This is serious. Take your income last year and knock off 40% tell me how paying your bills will work out next year.

Throw in a drought or something else and Crop insurance might be the best option.

Trudeau and his gang will do nothing but virtue signal and hope the issue is forgotten or goes away. Look at all their promises, takes them years to get anything going. And taking a science based approach to a political problem is stupid. That's not what it is.

I have worked with Liberal leaders and Conservative and NDP. The easiest way to forget an issue and do nothing says we are working really hard at getting it settled and we will study and come up with a solution.

Reality is they are hoping it will go away on its own by the time the election happens or just forget about it because farmers never vote liberal anyway.

We weren't mentioned in a Federal budget after having 50% duty put against us by India. Do you think they will care if we lose a billion dollar industry?

We need our canola groups to step up and demand some action now.
Cash for the losses, that way they will have to fix it or it will cost them.

Input capital has a lot of pull at the Saskatchewan capital. ...and if they can talk Ralph and Billy Moroneau to invest...voila...money will flow.

I agree this needs to be in the news every single day. Phone CBC CTV and 980 News talk. Call it like it is a shit show. Phone down east gets on the air. With the internet, you can have a radio from any place.

Our producer groups need to step up this time or they prove to most of us they are useless fools just getting a check.

Ask for your Canola check off dollars back is a start.

Phone the Liberal MP even if they won't answer the phone.

Keep it going because Trudeau wants it swept under the rug and do nothing.

It's only a western Canadian Industry like Oil dead.

Those 2 were partially written for idiots to comment on.
                  Thank you!!

Not on Mars worse live in province where if this was oil our premier would be crying and doing court cases but it’s not so they’ll all do just as much as the ndp or John gormley. When in fact yes the ndp should be on this every day all day and so should someone like gormley after all this could end his buddies input faster than the court cases.

The provincial government won't let Input Capital fail....they will gladly let them take the land instead...

Maybe Terry Youzwa can solve the problem...

So wonder what the large grain companies are doing? They would have more input than us farmers?
They can write JT a cheque..

                        Hahaha ya that’s true.
See maybe Mars is better. Lol.

Any group that steps up and demands compensation will get my support I don’t care who it is. Not that narrow minded to support those that will support us.

Building facilities and terminals in Russia, FSU, South America... with the widened export margins they have received on Canadian exports over the past 6 years. Do you really believe a multinational company cares where they source grain from? Grain TRADERS make money on buying and selling grain. They are not a social service! Why would they waste capital supporting farmers in Canada if they can make as much or more money elsewhere in the world. That is free enterprise and open markets. No, Canadian farmers are in this alone and the sooner you all realize that and quit bitching amongst ourselves and start working together the better chance we all have to survive.

This is NOT a political issue or Liberal vs Conservative. The same problem would have occurred no matter what party was in. This is a survival issue for western Canadian farmers and we have to work together and solve the problem rather than snide comments, finger pointing, and using it as a political football.

Pretty sure there are a few shit bricks under the chairs of the BOD for Input. Wonder how they did the risk management for a potential drop like this.

Right. We all know you're strategic enough to lay a trap. Right. Ha. No you're mouth just got flapping and you couldn't stop. Out of control like usual.
