    Moisture conditions

Pleased to see most of snow gone, runoff below normal our area of eastern Sask.
With a bit of luck will be able to seed low ground that has not produced last few years.
Expanded slough area, waterlogged soil and increased salinity have all occurred.
Think it has been one hundred year plus record wet.
If we knew what was coming in way of wet or dry years it would be helpful.
Betting on return to longer term average.
Satisfied with soil moisture conditions, think profile is nearly full.

We are still waiting for the snow to melt up here in the NE corner of Sask but way ahead of last year so far. We are sitting good for moisture for spring seeding and hopefully a drier spring.

Snow going nicely but this is only March 24. Lots of winter left. Looks to get colder next 5 days and some snow mid week. I’ve seen this before. Moisture is topped off from last falls rains and snow is soaking in too. Surprisingly I don’t think it’ll be too bad cause these cold events should slow the melt and allow the natural drainage handle it. A windy warm week in April and we’ll be dry enough to scratch in May.

sloughs are back and snow actually had some moisture. We had a wetter fall.

        Runoff filled some dugouts

Just a note that after the frost comes out alot will be gone or way smaller.

Sloughs and dugouts all full here. Some roads and culverts washed out but all in all an average run off. Three 1 inch rain events post harvest and 14 inches of snow that melted in before freeze up has our area of the southwest in much better shape than the previous spring. Planting conditions looking much better than market conditions this season.

Going skidooing tomorrow for a wiener roast with kids. Very odd bare patch. Melt just got going. Ahead of normal by about a week or ten days. Moisture will be wet.

                Usually is LOL!
About half gone here, thawing nice and slow and the ground is taking it. It'll be average or below average reserves once it's all thawed. Plenty time to pick up more moisture before the grass gets going.
