    China refuses purchases of all Canadian canola;

Many questions still remain around why Chinese authorities blocked all canola export shipments from Richardson International about two weeks ago. For quite some time, China has been a major importer of Canadian canola. China’s imports account for roughly 4o per cent of of all Canadian exports of canola seed, oil, and meal.

The Canola Council of Canada (CCC) says it was hopeful for a quick resolution of the dispute, but “technical discussions to date have not indicated an immediate resolution is possible,” according to the council. On top of this frustration, and as the conversation continues at a slow pace, the CCC says Chinese importers refuse to purchase any canola seed from Canada at this time.

We’re disappointed that differing viewpoints cannot be resolved quickly,” says Jim Everson, president of the CCC. “Under the circumstances, Canadian canola seed exporters who normally ship to China have no alternative but to supply customers in other countries who value high quality Canadian canola.”

According to a news release, the Canadian canola industry makes every effort to meet the requirements of customers and their governments around the world. From seed developers, growers, processors, and exporters, all segments of the value chain coordinate to ensure consistent and high quality canola, the council says.

Just last year, canola seed exports to China were worth $2.7 billion in 2018. Demand for the commodity remained strong until this recent dispute.

“Canadian ministers and government officials have responded quickly to Chinese concerns; however, technical discussions are unlikely to lead to an immediate resolution,” added Everson. “We urge the Government of Canada to continue to intensify efforts to resolve the situation.”

So no canola is moving to China.

The federal budget is over and not a mention.

So thank the liberals they killed now Canola.

But some will say oh it’s harpers fault or they are all working so hard.

Its not even news $2.7 billion wiped out.

    So liberals explain.

The women in questions first court date isn’t till mid to late May. We’re hooped.

Once gone and USA gets a deal we’re screwed.

    Please explain liberals.

40% of demand translates into about a $8 price, maybe even a touch lower. Doesn't pencil with seed at $12 per lb and N $200 a ton higher.

Isn't it just the most insidious Canadian irony: we pay for a choices made in Eastern Canada.
The government bales out dairy, and we lose billions. Oh Canada.

The alliances and trading partners are shifting,
NorthAmerica vs every where, and under that we fall victim to USA needs and Federal well wishers

How can Quebec have a balanced budget? And how much did they receive in Provincial transfer payments?

Differences between world governments can be very, very slow to kiss and make up. Remember BSE in 2003, most in the know thought it would only take 4 - 6 months to get the US border open again to Canadian beef, but it took 4 years to reopen and up to 9 years depending on the beef product and country involved, for imports and exports to resume.
This canola fiasco appears to be all politics (revenge, bargaining, muscle flexing, incompetence, complacency) while BSE was more about food safety concerns. We just hope the price of canola doesn't go as low as the equivalent of 40.00 dollar cull cows. Brutal.

If it helps guys glyphosate is WIDELY used as a dessicant and in roundup ready canola in OZ no such bans so its political argument not chemical argument.

ps we dont have roundup ready canola in our state were GM free only mainland state in aust to be so.

SK3, what do you intend on growing on your 4000 ac you had planned on seeding if you cancel your seed?? I’m really curious as you had a bad experience with peas last year, and you basically said “never again”, because BASF didn’t help you out on what you called chemical damage.
You are pushing everyone to cancel seed but plans have been made, fert has been bought months ago ...... what’s the alternatives??
At the end there will be very few acres cut.
