    Fears Of Another Spring Drought

Just up and reading and wow. We are in the driest area right now RED. Surprised the snow here has some water and is running and putting some sloughs from last fall that were worked with water again.

    One good rain. but scary.

I like dry springs . Work is easier....things move along smoother....If it can rain in Mid june all will be good.

The world needs to starve a bit to realize I am not doing this out of the goodness of my heart and equity.

Sounds too depressing to open and read. Better double up on the meds.

Well there is definitely a drought brewing from Regina all the way to Calgary. Almost no snow and a couple warmish days totally took what was there. Lot of that snow fell when it was -30 so not much moisture in it.

Couple guys still doing conventional summerfallow here. They'll be churning dirt by monday. Still a slight bit of snow in stubble. Didn't freeze last night and calling for 3 days of 15+.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the purpose of tillage in mid March? There can't be any weeds growing yet is there?

Still white here too. Sounded like a snowmobile rally Sunday afternoon. Counted 9 in one group. Plowed off hillsides to get bare ground for cows. South facing slope has over 2 feet of snow and it shrunk a foot to boot.

Breaking the crust before it dries out. If they leave it till just before the discer or drill hits it, it'll come up with lumps the size of pie platters.

Often two passes of tillage here before the seed goes in the ground when you're conventional.

That little flower is Yellow whitlow grass. Since we quit chemfallowing it hasn't been much of an issue. We like to seed fairly early anyway.

280 sleds at the local rally here this past Saturday.
Open areas were rough from winds in Feb but in the hills north the snow was great .
