    grazing rye

Last fall I seeded some rye for spring and summer grazing. In central Alberta, on an average year, what stocking rate could one expect for cow/calf pairs?

80 acres (dark brown soil 30 miles NW of Hanna) of fall seeded rye was pastured 2 springs in a row as listed below. I have never seen an average year. Date Use NO. I would say you should able to stock it at 1 cow/calf per arce per season. To achieve this the field needs to be split( Electric fence) and then rotate from one field to the other.
