    Ah, harvest here we come.

For most farmers, this is like the graduation from high school. Some can't wait to get out and move on to new and better things (Sell farm and move on). Some will take time to reflect and then start something new after summer ( Decide after harvest if you want to do it again or sell out). Start a job right after the last day of School (Plan for the 2019 crop). Take time to bid everyone goodbye and marry your high school sweetheart and stay in the area (Well there is always next year country, let's do it again).

Yes, we work long hard hours to get to this place. Some will be rewarded nicely for there efforts and others won't. Mother nature still holds the cards in Canadian Agriculture. I know I piss some off but the last July and the first two weeks of August are typical Western Canada Summers. Sorry for bringing that up but check with your folks or remember when you were younger and how we went weeks with high temps then all of a sudden it was fall and let's get the harvest done.

All year and last year I have said were back to normal weather and yea this is the normal western Canadian weather.

We adapt and move on. Just like the flood years that massive amounts of land went under water. They are slowly coming back. Next year I feel we will almost be back to full quarters or where we were before the floods for land. These areas produce and it will be nice to have them back. Hell swathing and just going one mile up and back is really fun, but sometimes you get to brave and sink the swather as some sloughs or flats still only days ago dried up.

Well on the political side looks like we have a new Holliday in Canada. Wow, anything to buy votes for the liberals. I agree the First nations should have National Aboriginal day to Celebrate the culture of the first Canadians. But why Bring up Residential Schools etc. Ah but Trudeau will shed a tear and Hopefully the first nations will see that this is a Big Fool trying to buy votes. Time will tell but to me, it looks like the Liberals are working really fast on a snap election that they will call days after the Marijuana is made Legal.

Watch its coming. All I have to say is Lets Hope the people of this country aren't that stupid to give this fool a life pension and a second term.

Ok here is the Crop Report.

The sad part is what I called a few weeks ago is coming to be. Yields are down. The gas tank was empty last year and we only stopped and put in 50 Bucks so we have been pushing a dead vehicle for last few weeks.

    I'll call it now.

If you grew a crop last year of say 70 wheat this year will be 59.5

Canola if it was 62 it will be 52.7

    Oats 135 will be 100.

Barley if last year was 100 its 85 this year.

Peas 60 plus will be 40.

Yield will be down Provincial wide and all the Crop experts should be fired for there bull shit reporting and useless information. Heat and wind and no rain don't make a Bumper you fools. Look at the above picture and take Trudeau out and put in your Crop advisor.

Ok, now the fun stuff. No rain this last week and guess what its time to pray for nice hot dry sunny windy fall and get this shit show on the road.

HRS is shutting down only a few green patches and Wow early yields of 25 bus on lighter land with 16 plus protein are an ouch. Saskatoon early harvest report from a friend was 30 with 17.3 protein. Desiccation will start today on our farm as the crop is in the ground over 100 days and its ready. Time to even out the crop. Some are swathing this year and hope to harvest next week. Watch the Elevators won't want high protein. No market like last years no protein had no market but they moved every bushel. It's a Joke. Disease looks like it was a waste to spray fungicide on HRS in 2018.

Barley the early stuff in our area looks good, it's no 2017 but it will still be plump and nice if it doesn't get a rain. But the feed is $4.75 so F#$K the Chinese with fake malt and the Malt companies you screwed up this market with your games.

Peas are coming off all over the place no big-time yields like some other years but a constant seems to be 40 from everyone from the BTO to the little guys. Again yields are down wondered why experts. Push product for massive production and still mother nature runs the show. Funny $ 100-acre rent with a 40-bushel crop at 6 leaves 140 for paying the bills me thinks there will be a lot of Red Numbers on spreadsheets this winter.

Oats is the one crop I have not seen anywhere that looks decent. Hell, a guy posted on Facebook on a farm page that he was happy with 100 oats this is the same guy last year posting 160 so Yea oats suck. Some will have better Barley than there oats crop.

Flax is turning yield will be down from last few years but still made not bad of a crop.

    Part two!

Lentils are coming off any were from 12 to 25 to 35. Depending on the area.

Pastures are still holding but getting mowed down quite fast.

Green feed is being made all over the place. Hail damaged crops are being used plus other fields.

Canola will be not bad on early but NO 2017 crop for sure. Smaller lighter seed is a sure thing. One guy at Edgeley did start harvesting his Canola last night it was down for a week or 9 days. Looked nice but no 60 plus. Later seeded will have big issues. Fields still blooming are turning white on top. Yea its dry and hot and well Canola doesn't like that shit. The experts talking about 25 mmt crop it a 20 or lower. Nice job you experts sure know what you're looking for. Keep up the great work. Farmers if you pay these fools to drop them they aren't working for you they want you to buy buy and buy some more just to keep them in Business. Bertha was spotted north about a half hour. Spraying has occurred by some on later seeded Canola. Please look at your fields a lot are swathing way to green like way to green, Maybe you need it in for Viagra Capital but the reality is you'll owe them more in a light seed. Some swathing is occurring in our area but still a few days off not enough black seeds. Strait cut were not waiting for will swath at 96% colour change.

    Canary is changing.

Durum first fields swath, some are going to the strait and not desiccate.

The kelly harrow on grassland and pasture worked out surprisingly well. Sealed the ground up levelled it out and mulched or thatched the grass. Went and looked with the farmer and new little alfalfa coming plus little grass. Basically, only a half inch since we did it. Really impressed.

Ok, that's this week in a nutshell Most are fixing last minute repairs. Some complaining oil is so hot in the combine on plus 38 days. Belts breaking in heat. No fires yet.

Yields will definitely not be 2017.

Be safe its just a crop and they are working really hard to make sure you get paid less for a shitty crop. The ones at home are way more important.

Oh one last thing some free advise from a guy who worked in Farm Finance, If it's going to be a shit show piss poor crop, go in early and discuss get stuff started now because if the Big dogs in Toronto or Calgary decide to tighten up the rains its better early than late if you know what I mean.

Early peas here , hearing 30-35 . Discounts on some bleach in greens , peas are smaller as expected.
Red ink at 7.50 on some rented land .
Some peas will be in the 40’s , later peas will be better but that’s the gamble one does not know at seeding time.
Second growth in wheat is causing headache for swathing and or spray timing. Grading could be a gong show, hopefully not .
Some canola swathed , crop is shorter than normal but pods look ok .
Soys still need a rain , time running out but look great yet .
Was hoping to get going on peas tomorrow but that may be Sunday/Monday now with zero sun , fog all night and much lower temps than predicted.

Furrow yes the Soy looks awesome in our area from the Road but very few pods this year. Cargill new Soy seed treating facility will be a ghost town in 2019 for sure.

Temps next week are dropping wouldn't be surprised to get a frost one night. Deere Weather station 30 min north of us had a temp of 1.9 the last cool run. Yea its dry its hot and frost does come.

Second growth is an issue in a lot of crops. This happened after the last 1/2 in and then a few days later another. Canola strait cut will be interesting.

Seeding some years early hurts some years later is a boom this year later is a bust and early is the winner.

Its the game we play, good luck with the harvest.

            Pretty much the opposite here
            Early crops are generally poorer.

Extreme smoke. Almost ten degrees colder than forecast highs. Not helping to get this crop mature.
Some barley should be ready within a week. Peas maybe too. Canola swathing will start next week. My oats are from grass green to half turning yellow. Flax turning nicely. For us up here, this is generally a week or two early, which could be nice for once.maybe be able to harvest before October!

Second cut hay yielded better than the first cut. Greenfeed half cut. Was hoping for the heat they stated, but 21 is gunna take a while to dry.

Same here, which is typical. The last ☔️ ten days ago, will fill the green oats to the max. The ripe oats? Not so much. Canola looks like a different story though. Timing is everything. Luck is a huge factor. Er, should I say, management? 😝

The barley thing is what I’ve been hearing no 100s it’s 80 this year the BTO number of choice. Either way this crop is smaller than 2017 that’s what I’m calling it now.

Plus last years was over estimated for who’s benifit

Barley done swathing will start shutting wheat down this afternoon. Cool 21 here and smoky.

Sask ag and Food surprised that yields are lower but giving hope the smoke saves later seeded.

My canola is sucking in all that smoke and told me it will go 60, just like the crop reports said.

Started spraying our poorest wheat today ok it’s on our poorest land. Seeded first.
