Trump Tariffs Won't Work - Stockton

David Stockton comments on CNBC. A worthy hear (IMO) . . . .

Trump's action threatens to flush U.S. agriculture down the toilet. He may do so much damage that it will not recover. With today's on time delivery, a loss of one production cycle, could cause irreparable harm. We will be caught in the back wash. The failed business man will ruin trade.

30 billion in direct subsidies will fix that.

Never underestimate the power of the US economy.

I'm more worries about collateral damage (us)

Sotckton has been going on about the collapse of the US economy for decades and is always wrong.

On raw exports like soya, there may be some pain, but if the price of say baseball gloves goes up from china, then maybe some industrious person might start making them in the US again. People do not understand trade.

Trump first took the brakes off the US economy so he could fight the trade war. People need to decide if they want cheap walmart stuff or pay a little more to have a job and a functioning economy.

People in the U.S. don't get it. Labour intensive jobs and coal jobs are not coming back. If you want to succeed in the future, tech , healthcare and service are the right course. Do you really think the U.S. will give Ag. 30 billion? They would have to pull out of the W.T.O. and then what? So you stroke N.Korea but fight with China. Do you really think the U.S. population will tighten their belts and lower their living style?

They won't have to lower life style if this is the end game. Combined with tax cuts, I believe he's over doing it. DX,DJ, and interest rates to the moon. In essence the US will go supernova and die IMO. Think bitcoin but on a proportion never seen.

The 30 billion are already in play, Why do you think bean prices have been going up?

The US is buying stocks, now talking about price insurance. All perfectly legal. Europe does it too, no need to drop out of the WTO.

As far as coal and iron jobs... The mines are already reopening... LOL.

I'm sorry, but how do you expect an economy to operate with nothing to create value? Services and healthcare do not inject new money into a monetary system, they just make the same money go around.

I wish socialists would actually learn some economics before babbling nonsense.

Except it is actually much worse than that, since as that same money keeps circulating, it leaks out of the loop at every crack and crevice and the next time around is a fraction of what started out.

Call me stupid but trumps idea of bringing jobs back it good except who will you be able to sell to?

All your potential customers are pissed at you....

The other really odd thing about all of this is that his billionaire buddies have been using China to build shut because it's cheaper.....of course the technology will move to the manufacturing process to make it quicker or more efficient....

They created the move in technology in China. ...****ing dummies .....and yet they want sympathy from the American public now....

Watch dragons den or shark tank and you soon learn why the rich people created China.....

Have a look at the size of the US consumer economy compared to the rest of the world, and how minor trade is as a percent of GDP vs. China. They can sell to themselves, exports are nearly irrelevant. That is why the advantage is in the Americans favour in any trade dispute.

Look at Japan. It's the productivity of the people that creates wealth. I do agree with you to a certain extent.

It was the high tax rates and excessive regulation in North America that created China imo

Right but factories don't get rebuilt or put back into service overnight....

I understand where and what Trump wants to accomplish but upsetting the apple cart with every trading partner seems excessive....

Then look at what the Bank of Canada just did ...higher interest rates won't solve Canada's problem when we and especially farmers in western Canada will be collateral damage by Trump, Poloz, and that ****ing idiot Trudeau who put fuel prices to the moon for no good reason.

They have to keep raising step for step with the US Fed, to sell govt of Canada debt.
