    Chicken Feed

Hi. I've got a flock of 150 laying hens. Have been using a commercial 36% layer ration supplement mixed with wheat and barley. Is there a ration that I could make without using the supplement? Possibly just peas, and what could I use for minerals? Could I use a 2:1 or 1:1 min. mix for cows? What would a good mix be in proportions? Would like to use as much homegrown ingredients as possible. How much flax could I put in? Thanks for any info.

I've kept laying hens for quite a few years now. We always feed ours whole oats with some cracked wheat. We also use some layer ration (poultry premix, $20/bag-use about a half of coffee can per 5 gallon pail)We also give the laying hens oyster shell seperate to peck at to strengthen shells and prevent them from eating the eggs.
