When is it too late to shear?

I have a few Texel/Romney crosses that didn't get sheared this spring. Is it too late to shear them now? They are pretty wooly right now, I can't imagine what they will look like by spring. They will have lots of shelter this winter, but it can get down to minus 35 in November here.

I don't know if there is a 'too late' for shearing. Some people like to shear before lambing, some in spring some in fall. I could be wrong but at this time of year winter coats are just coming in.
