    Canary Seed

Below is a email I recieved about canary seed from Doug Chambers the
Manager of Quality Grain Marketing. I am hoping the prices might climb up a bit for a short time in May sometime. What is your opinions on this?

Over the past few months we have seen canaryseed prices drop from the high .30’s to the low .20’s. We now see the market at .20/lb with the odd opportunity to price a .21/lb picked up. If you see one of these opportunities you should grab it and run.

New crop maybe 5 months away but is already being priced at .14/lb by some buyers. If you look back over history, canaryseed tends to have a couple of high years, 2001 and 2002, and then drops back to 3 years of low prices ranging from .08 to .12 lb. This year seems to be trending to the bottom end of that.

Another thing that will be happening in the next 2 months is the spring harvest of left over canary seed. These acres consist of between 20 and 25% of a normal crop and will hit the market hard. By the end of June we will be lucky to see .16/lb in the market as a whole.

Give us a call if you want more detail.

Remember this is an example of some of the extra market commentary that you can get for just over $8/month if you subscribe to our daily e-mail service. As well you get daily updates of trades that have happened during the past 24 hours. You also get the daily summary of where other people are willing to sell and where the bids are to compare if what you are seeing is equal to what you have found in the market place. As well there is market alerts that come out when a buyer steps into the marketplace looking for a specific product at a premium price.

This is an excellent way to follow the markets when you are out seeding.

If you have got this e-mail, it means you are not subscribed to this service. If you want to subscribe to this service then send a cheque to the below address for $107.00 (100 plus GST) and we will get you on right away. Make the cheque payable to Quality Grain Marketing.

I'd say he's right on the money. It was a fun two years riding the canary wave but those days are done for a few years.

Hey Gizen, Do you subscribe to Doug Chamber's email service? If so, is it worth the $100/yr?

      TIA......Wedino
