Western Canadian Crop Acreage in 2000

Any early thoughts about what western Canadian farm managers are going to grow in 2000? With malt barley PRO forecasts close to $3/bu, will this mean more barley or will $2 +/- /lb barley kill this desire? Can you grow $6/bu canola and still make money? How many more acres of pulses? Thoughts??

My brother-in law worked a booth at the crop production show and said there was big interest shown at the lentil, pea and mustard areas. If this translates into more acres,we'll have to wait.Rumblings from grain rep's are saying there may be barley contracts filling up.And yes I feel you can still make a little profit at 6.00 canola. It looks like we all got a bit spoiled with it having been in the 8-9$ area for a few years! What do you think a guy has a chance of a reasonable profit at for 2000?
