    durum

Does anyone know if there any varieties of Durum that can be grown in Central Alberta (Camrose area)? There was talk last year of development of a new durum that could be grown around here.

I'm not aware of any variety that could be grown that far north. Durums are listed at 108 days maturity in Alberta Agriculture's variety publication but this is 108 days relative to where durums are grown (S/SE Alta) As you go north, days to maturity will increase significantly not to mention that quality losses would be difficult to avoid. Alberta Agriculture's recommendation is not to grow Durum outside of area 1& 2 (SE Alta) to the southerly tip of area 3 (South of Provost). Sorry for taking so long to respond.
