    cattle profits?

According to the ag census farmers in Alberta spend 90% of their gross sales on operating expenses. The livestock portion is even worse than this but we'll go with the 90% figure.
Now if you sling hamburgers at MacDonalds for $7.50 /hr. and you work 40 hrs./week, 52 weeks a year you get $15,600/yr. So to make the same amount in cattle you would need gross sales of $156,000! Say $800/calf with a 96% calf crop. You need 203 cows! Now if you want to move up the chain to say the wage of someone mowing grass for the city at $10.75/hr. you need 291 cows! If you were a schoolteacher you would need 780 cows! Kind of amazing isn't it?

Apparently, it's all done for the love of self employment!!Why else would you put in the kind of hours that we do for the pay of an 8 hr day slinging what we raise???
