Coming Together For Change?
It’s Time to Come Together And Send Edmonton a Message!

The struggle to assert our property rights has often been sort of a helter skelter affair, quite often driven by how a certain piece of legislation affected us personally? Quite often we missed the “big picture” that the four land grab bills (19, 24, 36, 50) all came from the same bureaucratic mindset that emphasized control from above, no compensation......or very inadequate compensation, and no recourse to legal justice! All four bills share these very undemocratic traits.

There is of course much more evidence of this “control mindset”...... outside the land bills. The corruption of our regulators, the ERCB….the AUC…..the Surface Rights Board, are all indications that something is very wrong? The huge, unnatural influence on the government by groups like CAPP and AltaLink should be a warning to all of us that something isn’t right? Corporations should not be telling our government what to do!

We do have an opportunity to take back our government and force them to provide fair democratic policies that respect our basic rights. We need to forget our petty differences and not allow the government elites to divide and conquer us by catering to one or two narrow interests…..whether that is a power line, a pipeline, a grazing lease, or a water license! We need to take the mindset of “if they steal something from you today…….they’ll be stealing something from me tomorrow”!

There are days I have trouble believing how bad our provincial government has become! How far they have strayed from what a good government should be.

When they pass laws that blatantly violate the very principles of our British common property law! When they bring in regulations that undermine our property and the very environment we live in!

We do have time to turn this mess around……not much....... but things are starting to pick up? The people are finally waking up to what has been going on?

Now is the time to come together and send a unified voice to our rulers “WE’VE HAD ENOUGH! No More Taking our Property! No more taxing us for Big Oil! No more treating us like second class citizens in our own country!”

We can bring this government to heel if we stay united in our demands.

Send Premier Redford a Message
In January you will get your chance to send Premier Alison Redford a message that things have to change. Premier Redford has appointed a Task Force on Property Rights……and she wants to hear from you!
Diana McQueen, the Environment Minister, chairs the task force and Evan Berger is the vice chair. Rounding out the table is Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Calvin Dallas, Justice Minister Veryln Olson, Infrastructure Minister Jeff Johnson, Sustainable Resources Minister Frank Oberle, Lacombe MLA Ray Prins, and Strathmore-Brooks MLA Arno Doerkson.

It is extremely important for landowners to get out to these meetings if they expect the government to restore their property rights. Make no mistake here……it’s up to YOU to do something!
If twenty people turn up and don’t say anything the government will come to the conclusion that people are quite happy with what they have been doing! No need to change, no need to return your property……..they will have a green light to take the rest!
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
We did it at ECKVILLE……we sent a clear message to Ted Morton and Evan Berger on that night and that message was “We’re mad as hell, and we’re not going to take it anymore!”
That’s the message we need to send at every one of these public meetings in January!
Now I know how it is……a lot of farmers and ranchers aren’t comfortable standing up in a public meeting and expressing their anger and frustration with a government that has gone off the road. I know that……and we aren’t asking you to do anything you can’t! What we are asking you to do is BE THERE and show your support for the ones who don’t have much of a problem telling these politicians how it is! …..there are a few!
This thing is coming together. We are getting phone calls and email messages from all over the province. There are a lot of very angry people out there……and there should be!
If you can’t make it to these meetings the government will have a website up in January where you can send in a submission, or you can write a letter to chair Diana McQueen. This is our last kick at the can to get the land grab bills repealed.
