I believe Canada Gold (Rick Paskel) owns the plant at Innisfail and they were killing cattle for European export until about a month ago. At that time they closed the beef line, laid off about 70 workers and are only killing sheep today.
The beef line had a capability of 300 hd. a day but they were only killing 300 a week by the time they shut it down.

The thing I do not understand about Canada Gold's choice to cut back is why they have not offered the thousands of head of hormone free cattle that they have on que into the natural beef market in Canada. Pretty sure that with their own plant and access to all of the same domestic customers that Prairie Heritage and Kotelko's have, they could offer these cattle at a more competitive price and still make out better than bailing on them and selling them to Cargill and Nillsons. HMM. Are there ethics in the non conventional cattle biz after all?
