    Crop share for haying

I recently had a neighbor cut and bale my hay. We were unsure of what a fair percentage of crop should go to each. Anyone with some experience in this?

Hay crop shares of 50:50 to 60:40 ( 60% to renter ) are fairly common around here. Factors which favour a higher percentage to the renter ( person cutting & baling ) are: low yielding crop rough or rocky ground double cut crop It's negotiable.

Check out the article about Crop Share Agreements for Forage/Hay in the Specialists Corner archives. http://www.agri-ville.com/newspaper/spcorner/sc73.html This arrangement was utilized in the Cremona area on export timothy hay with some mixed legume stands. The first premise behind this arrangement is that a 50-50% hay split is equitable when the landlord and the custom operator each pay 50% of the fertilizer costs. Merle Good, Taxation Specialist with Alberta Agriculture wrote the paper and has asked for feedback about the article in the Farm Management Meeting room. http://agri-ville.com/members/farm-management.html
