MLAs to "explain" Bills at Rolly View

Should be an interesting meeting for anyone able to attend on Monday.

"MLAs to hold open house on land-use bills

LEDUC COUNTY - George Rogers, MLA for Leduc-Beaumont-Devon, and Ray Prins, MLA for Lacombe-Ponoka, will be holding an open house for concerned landowners to get the facts on the Province's Bills 19, 36 and 50.

"There's a lot of fear and misinformation being spread right now," said Rogers. "The idea that the government would pass bills that would remove an individual's property rights is not only completely false, but ridiculous. The Premier is a landowner, 22 members of the government are landowners — why would they pass legislation stripping themselves of their rights? It's a completely illogical argument."

The open house, scheduled for Monday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. at the Rolly View Hall, will be a chance for landowners to have an open discussion on these Bills.

"This way, we can look the landowners in the eye and tell them the facts," said Rogers.

Bills 19, 36 and 50 speak to responsible, coordinated, long-term land-use planning in the province.

Rogers said that it is not the government's intention to change the long-standing balance between accommodating the public interest and recognizing the rights of individual Albertans. In light of the concerns raised, Premier Ed Stelmach has asked for a review of the wording of the bills, and has indicated that if changes to legislation need to be made to better clarify the government's intentions relative to protecting landowners' rights, those changes will be made. He's also made it clear that no regional plans will be approved before this review of the legislation is complete.

Anyone interested in attending is asked to contact the Leduc-Beaumont-Devon Constituency Office at 780-986-4652"

    So far my MLA says....

    Trust me

    Wilson is a snake

Why didn't you come to me sooner (Have met him various time as well as Berger, Morton, Stelmach and Knight)

You are just playing into the hands of the WR

The words don't mean what they sound like

    You are misinterpreting the words

The bill has good intent (there are many things in the bill that address legitimate needs)

We would never act on those clauses

On a positive note. Barry McFarland or at least a group of his supporters has asked an independent lawyer to review the sections in question. I am curious of that result.

      They still don't get it.

In fairness, the politicians may have good intent as they daily lick their finger put it into the wind to see which way the wind is blowing.

      However!
The hidden agenda comes from the socialist (unionized) bureaucrats who have more power that the elected "gopher boys". They're the ones who have the "ambition".

I agree WD. The writers of the bills certainly didn't have the best of intentions judging by their deeds. If power corrupts these bills guarantee corruption. Should be an interesting meeting.

In the bigger scheme of prov politics I have to believe that the entire PC caucus are damaged goods because of these bills. What a gift for Danielle.

Just watch some "2-coats" jump her ship to revitalize the PC party.

Fact I tyhink there's evidence that her WRA has got some implanted mole advisors.

How else did lame duck Edie launch his blog one day before WRA made their policy public. Insider trading, count on it.

The crooked snakes knew exactly what was intended by those bills.

Vote 'em out...I'll even support the WRP to get those bills rescinded.

The time for PC BS is OVER. Forty years of PC RULE is TOO much.

Forget the meetings with these MLAs...useless waste of time and effort.

I disagree - I think they need to be challenged in public and this provides the opportunity. Non-attendance is like the ABP meetings, they will say it indicates support of the Government position and that no-one is interested in the issue.

As GF says there is an opportunity for accountability by dialog. Also it puts the ball back in the Governments court making them explain and retract and possibly fix a wrong. That could possibly keep them from using a bad bill against us. No matter whether they make one or all of these bills acceptable we still need to hold them accountable at the polls as well. I am afraid however that the electorate will remember or believe none of this come election time. Same Caucus different leader = new and reinvigorated group. not

The only reason their putting on these meetings is because they have be hugly and publically challenged already.

These two won't even understand these bills because the bureaucrates are the ones with the social agenda and the authors of the legislation and the security of union jobs.

And the only way to the bureaucrats is to educate the politician's. A whole new set of idealistic politicians might not be so entrenched in the believe that there is nothing we can do.

So, if we vote out thse PCs can we demand that they take their bureaubrats with them? How can a changed government work with them anyways.

                            bill #36.

19   No person has a right to compensation by reason of this Act, a regulation under this Act, a regional plan or anything done in or under a regional plan except either
                                                           (a)    as expressly provided for under Part 3, Division 3, or
                                                           (b)    as provided for under another enactment.

Yes, that is a nice provision. We have no right of compensation...these clowns deserve to be defeated...and the sooner the better.
