    Farm Tech 2002

Comments from any of you on things you picked up at Farm Tech 2002 in Red Deer last week? My comment is what a pleasure it was to be there. People had a positive attitude in the face of tough times.

Did you find out anything at the sessions that is worth highlighting in this forum for others who weren't able to attend?

    Charlie,

We had Gerald at our ARTA mtg, and he commented that feed barley and triticale were both worth more in Australia than here in Alberta!

So much for the CWB claim that we have the highest prices for feed grains in the world!

When a person thinks about it, with subsidized corn coming in by the unit train, it would not be logical that this could be the highest price market anyway!

The CWB MUST be removed from barley and lower grade wheats, they are really hurting the sustainability of grain farming in Western Canada!

Triticale in Australia is valued higher by $10/t than feed barley, yet the CWB input into crop insurance values for the 2002 crop drastically undervalued feed barley, futher destroying the value of crops like rye and triticale (in Canada valued $20/t under feed barley).

    Converesly CWRS wheat is overvalued!

How do we stop CWB distortions?
