South African wanting to farm in Canada

My wife and I are in the proses of immigrating to Canada. Currently we are farmers in South Africa, and will be untill the immigration application is succesfull.

We would like to farm in Canada (buy our own farm), but thought it would be a good idee to work for somebody on a farm to get experience and see how things are done in Canada, before buying something of our own.

What I would like to know is, what is the possibillities for dairy farming in Canada? I heard that you have a quota system, is that true?

Can you give me a few site of employment opportunities in agriculture (Dairy management or herds person)?

    Kind regards
    JM Kemp

Dairy farming is certainly an important sector of Canadian agriculture. We do indeed have a quota system which is often referred to as "supply management." Quota prices are a significant cost of starting a dairy operation in Canada. Try this link for recent quota prices in Alberta.
