    Peak Canada

So its a lock that there will never be another resource project ever granted approval in the country again. Hope everyone enjoys stagnation.

Might have to get approval for what crops you seed and how you do it. Reparations next?

We let that bloody UN here with its unelected fools now overriding our sovereign laws.

Liberals to introduce bill to enshrine UN Indigenous rights declaration into law

The Liberal government is expected to introduce legislation today that will formalize the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP) in Canadian law.

The Liberals promised during the 2019 federal election to do so within the first year of a new mandate, but postponed tabling of the bill earlier this year as a result of the rail blockade crisis.

Justice Minister David Lametti and Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations Carolyn Bennett will hold a press conference at 10 a.m. to discuss the new bill along with a group of Indigenous leaders.

The proposed legislation is expected to be modelled on a private member's bill tabled by former NDP MP Romeo Saganash and passed by the House of Commons in 2018. That bill never passed the Senate after Conservative senators slowed its progress, warning it could have unintended legal and economic consequences.

The bill died when Parliament was dissolved before last fall's election.

UNDRIP is a framework that affirms the rights of Indigenous peoples to language, culture, self-determination and traditional lands. It also establishes "minimum standards for the survival and well-being" of Indigenous people, according to the UN.

Opponents have argued that a clause in the declaration calling for "free prior and informed consent" from Indigenous people for projects on traditional Indigenous land could block resource development.

And just how far back in time is this initiative supposed to reach? Even back to the times were homosapiens over ran Neanderthals?

Throughout history, conquests ranged from very violent to much much less.

Can you imagine the difference in cultures if everyone just stayed where they were? Some people would be using stone tools while others make what was once thought as "science fiction" a reality.

They must be very happy now that Alberta income has dropped to average.
Mission accomplished. Uppity damn hillbillies. Average has been attained.
No one better. All the same.
Ha, Freeland should ask some female friends when they last bragged about average sex.

They're too fučken stupid to realize they killed a goose that laid golden eggs, of which afew basketfuls made their way east in taxes and equalization to the hard-up Easterners.

And before anyone jumps in and says the oil industry was in decline anyway, or a victim of an economic turn down.....the powers that be never did much to help it either!

To be clear, the majority of indigenous don't want to block resource development, only to extort the maximum possible from the developers.
They are much better at math than the Liberal party.

And in a capitalist system everyone gets to play the game. Extracting the maximum profit is what capitalist are supposed to do. Non treaty indigenous people still hold title to their land. For the rest of us landowners the resource developers who lease the minerals can force their access on surface holders thanks to regulations that favour the oil and gas companies. Oil and gas companies love those regulations. LOL

The 1872 Dominion lands act predates the treaties in Sask, Ab and northern Mb. It also predates the constitution, the charter of rights and now UNDRIP. So we are on some of the safest legal property in the country.

That and home quarter protection gives an extra legal argument.

BC, Que not so lucky. Southern MB could be up for a legal challenge too.

All this did was to legitimize and legalize the process that has been going on for decades.
It has been a protection racket that would make the mob proud.
