    This is your guy Chuck.

He says your spinning your wheels.

You need Pol Pot back to give all those city folk hoes and move them all back to the farm.

PERFECT challenge , they won't DEBATE! Just repeat and repeat that everybody says we are dead in 12..11 years, and ALL scientists and ALL politicians even the POPE agree so we are F*CKED!

I am in agreement. Renewable energy sources won't get us where we need to go anytime soon. But that doesn't mean they can't be part of the solution.

There will also have to be many huge technological advancements to replace fossil energy sources. It may take several hundred years.

Using less is the first line of defense. Make everything as energy efficient as possible including how we live. Buildings, transportation and industry.

We waste a lot in the way we design all our infrastructure.

Its going to be a massive and very long transition.

Best thing you can do for the climate is halt globalization, immigration and population growth.

But nope, lets not talk about that. Lets talk about some barely functional technology thats 45 yrs old and still cant power a home and pray for it to be a solution someday in the future. Meanwhile oil demand rising to deal witht the first 3 problems I mentioned.

Thats why its not a solution, never was, never meant to be, its simply a wealth transfer.

These academics are so out of touch its not even funny. CO2 highest its ever been, sure buddy. Was a lot higher in the past. He writes a good first article then goes off the deep end with stupid rationing measures when the solutution is right in front of these geniues.

Nuclear plants. The old uranium mines can be restarted and you could have your first batch of nukes up and running in 10 yrs. Then when fusion actually takes off in 75 yrs, these locations could be repurposed for those facilities and would be already grid connected.

How about this one for today Chuck?

                https://torontosun.com/opinion/columnists/gunter-the-numbers-show-our-green-obsession-is-hurting-canada https://torontosun.com/opinion/columnists/gunter-the-numbers-show-our-green-obsession-is-hurting-canada

"Even our “have” provinces fall far behind the top American states. And Canada’s poorest — the three Maritime provinces — are at or below the lowest state, Mississippi.

According to work done by Trevor Tombe, a University of Calgary economist, Alberta is Canada’s wealthiest province with a per capita GDP of $64,000 US. Yet that is behind 16 American states. Indeed, Alberta is a full 25% below the richest American jurisdiction — New York state at $86,000.

Perhaps more concerning, though, is the plight of Ontario. Once the economic engine of the country and home to 40% of our national population, Ontario’s annual, per capita GDP is just $48,000 US. That’s only $1,000 better than Kentucky and just 12% above West Virginia — coal-mining, mountain-people West Virginia!"

AKA Hillbilies is you didn't get that.

Are you going to tell them?

They think they are the Elite.

"For instance, Ontario Liberal policies gave that province the highest electricity costs on the continent, which contributed to the loss of 200,000 manufacturing jobs in the past 15 years. That should make the architects of Ontario’s “green” energy policies contrite and apologetic. Instead, they are now trying to duplicate their disaster on a national scale."

Absolute biased bullshit from Gunter. Ontario electricity prices for large users are less than NewYork, Boston and Nashville. Residential users in Toronto are paying way less than many major US cities.

                  http://www.hydroquebec.com/data/documents-donnees/pdf/comparison-electricity-prices.pdf http://www.hydroquebec.com/data/documents-donnees/pdf/comparison-electricity-prices.pdf

One of the biggest factors in job losses in Ontario during the period was the high CAD that was result of the energy and commodity boom which drove the loonie higher. When we have a high CAD our exports are more expensive to importers which makes us less competitive. There are lots of other factors as well. Gunter is trying to lay the blame on electricity prices but the facts tell a different story.

If electricity prices are the most important factor in economic activity then Quebec and Manitoba should be booming because they have the cheapest electricity in North America by far! Its also the cleanest and most renewable because it comes from hydro!

                    Huh?

https://www.newscientist.com/article/dn7046-hydroelectric-powers-dirty-secret-revealed/ Hydroelectric power's dirty secret revealed

Hydroelectric dams produce significant amounts of carbon dioxide and methane, and in some cases produce more of these greenhouse gases than power plants running on fossil fuels. Carbon emissions vary from dam to dam, says Philip Fearnside from Brazil’s National Institute for Research in the Amazon in Manaus. “But we do know that there are enough emissions to worry about.”
In a study to be published in Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies for Global Change, Fearnside estimates that in 1990 the greenhouse effect of emissions from the Curuá-Una dam in Pará, Brazil, was more than three-and-a-half times what would have been produced by generating the same amount of electricity from oil.

There will never be another hydro dam built in Canada again.

Show us the scientific evidence that Quebec and Manitoba hydroelectric dams produce more CO2 and methane than equivalent fossil fuel generation?

Brazil has a very different climate and every dam is different. Correct? It would be speculation at best to assume the same applies in Canada.

Fossil fuels also vary in the amount of fossil energy required to produce them. So factor those differences in as well. Tar sands vs light crude, natural gas vs coal.

I didn't say there was no environmental impact from hydro electric. They have a big environmental foot print!

Glad to see you didn't defend Gunters biased opinions which was the main point of my post.

Did you check the electricity rates in NA?

Good article. The most significant take home message for me was that demand for electricity is increasing at a faster rate than the amount of electricity generated from wind and solar! Plus his acknowledgement that solar panels and wind turbines have to be replaced every 15-20 years. We are in a very sad time in Canada where the production of fossil fuels is so vilified and the reality is that there is no real alternative! Very dangerous virtue signalling by those in power.

Lots of vilification of renewable sources of elelectricity by some. The truth is somewhere in the middle. Harper the Conservative western oil backed prime minister also signed a G7 agreement that we would stop using fossil fuels for energy by 2100. Why was he not vilified for that ageeement? Many of you voted for him after the agreement was signed.
