Wow, good luck with that. Must be an issue in the us since some states have no tax and others do. Never really considered tax payable vs services received and timing of each, makes sense i guess but would interpret it more that the taxes get paid and then that money gets spent not the other way around??

Illinois is in massive trouble with pensions. It's an absolute mess. I have no skin in the game but it'll be interesting to watch the fallout and if other states join in. My sister is in cali and if she leaves, she's liable for taxes back to cali even if she moves. Nothing on real estate yet but I suspect if this goes through they'll follow. Even hearing that Arizona real estate getting a bump as mass exodus due to taxes. It'll be interesting....

Desperate measure for a desperate problem, and does nothing to address the cause of the problem.

Start by dismantling the public "service" unions and rolling the state employees contribution/pension balance back to a more realistic level. Designed so that a gov worker can expect to collect a US$60,000 pension for more years than what that person actually worked?

Maybe the exit tax should apply only to government workers, the ones who seem to have created the issue, if I'm understanding it correctly. How sweet, get a gov job and collect cash for life at a rate that appears to be 400% higher than private sector pensions.

Again, if my figures are correct, the public pension fund debt alone is equal to $20,000 per man, woman and child - and growing daily. What a pleasant prospect to face when born in Illinois.

And unless you're feeling philanthropic, don't buy a lottery ticket if you're cruising through the state cuz you might have trouble collecting your "winnings", it's that bad, LOL!

This is yet another example of what we were discussing in another thread about socialists being very poor at math (OK, willfully ignorant). Capital is mobile and punishing taxation levels and regulations will drive the capital away and more friendly environments will attract it. So, after killing most of the golden geese, rather than address the problem, now they want to punish anyone productive even more so they won't leave. Perhaps all political positions should require a skill testing math test. Perhaps apply it to trolls as well.

Canary in the coal mine. Problem will be far worse here in Canuckistan as the spread between public and private sector pay is bigger and we have equalization. Even the Ford administration in Ontario has to cut spending. Latest there is a 12B deficit on top of a 315B debt AFTER they have wisely cut some of the idiocy of the previous government.

Hahahaha not defending socialists at all but name me all the non socialists that have turned their economies around based on something they actually did?
Not because oil went to 100 bucks or world economy boomed because of wars.

The current sask government must be socialists then???

There are general services that need to be provided and should be provided
                  Education, health, assistance for
                  Those that can't function etc.
It's funny when people start stating it's the socialist fault right away because if
The socialists don't take it the rich will in excess of what should be taken which is the real problem.

When oil was 100 bucks we should have been collecting more revenues to build the schools hospitals roads that needed to happen but we didn't and so all us suckers are paying for the boom while the oil industry walked away and still does to this day with a free ride screwing us.
Car in point the spread at the pumps and raw crude. They are taking a raw resource that should be there for the benefit of all of us. They need a profit but could you imagine what they must be????
