Factsheet : The 1999 Supreme Court of Canada Marshall Decision

Mi’kmaq fishers won at the Supreme Court. But they're still fighting for their livelihoods.

Cut traps. Threats of violence. Twenty-one years after a landmark ruling, the fight over treaty rights in Nova Scotia rages on.

You know you are incompetent when.....

NDP, Liberal cabinet ministers call for emergency debate over mounting N.S. fishery dispute

There comes a time when you have to put on the big boy pants and make decisions....

The federal government has been dogging this file for years and the outcome of their incompetence is inexcusable destruction of property and harm to others...

All they will do by having an emergency debate is talk for hours and nothing will get resolved ....

I think this irritates me because the same shit will eventually happen in agriculture....maybe not today or tomorrow but in the future people will get pissed off enough to have the same results....

To date most guys are just checking out with a good payday from the capital gain....the guys that are trying to pay for high priced land and equipment with 1970s prices are going to hit a wall....and it won't be pretty.

Or will the fall back on the same excuse to blame harper

The federal government has spent $500 million setting up the Mi’kmaw to harvest lobster but they are not subject to the restrictions of the commercial fisheries. Imagine if you have hundreds of thousands of dollars invested in a fishing boat that you can only use on a few days a year and you have to sit and watch your competition fishing in boats subsidized by the federal government fishing whenever they want. No easy answer, it will be interesting to see how Justin Trudeau virtue signals his way through this.
