Easy, drill the hell out of western canada and call trump to buy it. Ignore all fake climate studies, paris accords and bogus unicorn tech.

So you going to stop using your smart phone and cordless tools that contain cobalt in the batteries? Because I don't see demand for cobalt falling with or without the tar sands.

I thought you were concerned about living and working conditions for Africans? Apparently not!

Interest in investing in the oil sands is so low that Jason (Chavez) Kenney is thinking of a socialist state owned oil company so that Albertan taxpayers can subsidize further development of the dirty and uneconomic tar sands and then pay for the clean up as well.

It will make Argentina's $5 billion dollar giveaway to gas companies look small in comparison!

Do you think Trump will want to buy oil from a socialist state owned company that subsidizes the oil? LOL

        Or just stop using cobalt.

"Researchers from the ****rell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin say they've cracked the code to a cobalt-free high-energy lithium-ion battery, eliminating the cobalt and opening the door to reducing the costs of producing batteries while boosting performance in some ways. The team reported a new class of cathodes -- the electrode in a battery where all the cobalt typically resides -- anchored by high nickel content. The cathode in their study is 89% nickel. Manganese and aluminum make up the other key elements."

You're being sidetracked again. Why spend $5 billion in subsidies on a supposed "profitable" and mature industry?

Engineers from Austin Texas helping to put oil workers out of business with better batteries? Don't tell Trump! How unpatriotic! hahah

Subsidies are okay as long as they are for the oil industry, agriculture and other "real wealth" producing industries. But not renewable energy!

The 35000 kwh my solar panels put out in a year and that run my welder and turn my aeration fans are not real! LOL

It sure is crazy isn’t it and shouldn’t be necessary. Unfortunately for investment to happen in a country that has a weak currency, has endorsed socialism again, has a bad track record with bankruptcy they are desperate for jobs.

Google the history of Venezuela to see a good example of a resource rich country going over an economic cliff while ran by socialism. Get back to us with your results and what lessons could be learned.

If low oil prices continue Alberta could be near a cliff as well!

Unlike Norway, that put away over trillion dollars from their oil and gas boom!

Even Republican Alaska saved way more than Alberta.

Who are the better managers and fiscally more conservative? Norway!

We can loan Norway and Alaska the anchor known as Quebec and see how much money they can put away.

Did Norway or Alaska have to send money to equalize another government. ?

Maybe that resource money sent to Ottawa was Ottawa's responsibility to put away instead of corrupt government policy and keeping Quebec happy.?

Albertan's did not send money to Quebec. All they did was pay the same federal tax that everyone else does. Equalization is a federal program and Harper and Kenney didnt change it did they?

Maybe google the definition of weak currency and Argentina.

What happened when Jason Kenney gave $5 billion in subsidy to Alberta oil? For a bunch of self proclaimed right wing capitalists you sure like the socialist subsidies.
