The Canada we know, was built by immigrants, refugees, first nations and their descendants who were often fleeing war, poverty, and inequality. Just like the current immigrants and refugees, they were looking for a better life and opportunities.

Immigration 100 yrs ago vs immigration into a welfare state are vastly different things. My grandparents had to move to the boondocks and eke out a living in the rocks. No hotel room for them. They were pioneers, not immigrants.

Well you can ask different people in Canada what they think of Trudeau and some like him, some don’t.
A year ago opinions were different.
But for years large landowners along the US/Mexican border were much in favour of cheap labour.

Are you saying this country will see the same growth in infrastructure like the immigration brought 100 years ago.....not likely....

We are being reduced to the countries they are coming from now....if they couldn't do shit in their homeland....they won't do more here...

62% of Texans think immigration helps the US more than it hurts it, 27% think it hurts more than helps.
The poll also found 90% of Texas adults support allowing illegal immigrants already in the country illegally to become citizens if there were strict conditions attached.

My brother lived in Austin for a few years and has a fair handle on Texan opinions.
I don't doubt the accuracy of you numbers and agree the closer you live with immigrants the more accepting you are.

One of the big issues even among the strongest Hillery supporters is the illegals are basically
on a free ride. They don't pay any payroll taxes or file tax returns as most work for cash. Most don't have drivers license or auto insurance so hope you don't get hit by one. They have the ability to just disappear.

IMHO the US can't run without them as the dominate many industries, not just pickers.

Austin is a nice modern city to visit but could be in California. Referred to as "The Peoples Republic of Austin". Maybe not a fair handle on Texas opinions.

You should check Austin out. If you got a little closer to some Americans you might be more accepting.

The first wave of new comers to Canada were the explorers people that mapped this huge territory. Second wave were the pioneers people dropped into the middle of nowhere with no support and no infrastructure and told to tame the land. Third wave were the settlers who moved into established outposts and budding towns and the development the pioneers established. Some pioneers still came at this time because there was still a lot of land untamed. Everyone after that were immigrants who landed in a modern country with generous benefits and supports. Everyone has contributed but not everyones contribution is equal.

The first nations were partners in the fur trade providing furs and guides. A lot of Chinese people helped build the railways. Eastern Europeans settled many farming areas. It was not only white skinned western Europeans who sweated and died building this great country.

Many recent immigrants are also highly educated doctors and professionals who keep you healthy and run high tech companies and teach your children. Lots of immigrants cut your meat, drive your taxis and do the low paying jobs that many Canadians won't do.

Many immigrant families work harder and improve themselves more than the entitled long term residents who expect high paying jobs and handouts.

There are lots of Canadian born free loaders from European descendants too.

Not once did I say white people. I said people involved in the taming of this country and involved in its first infrastructure and nation building efforts are not the same as someone sitting in a Toronto hotel room or plucked off a first class flight by our minister.

Nothing wrong about either but to give equivalence to todays arrivals with people who suffered greatly due to weather and work hardship while carving something out of nothing is not accurate. I don't see many immigrants moving to the bald prairie. Its pretty cushy in Toronto.

If first nations can state their pecking order then so can my ancestors.

you are right but those are immigrants that came here the right way not 25000 that came for a photo op and some are still living in hotels on our dime . all inclusive
you are also right that there are many socialist freeloading long term Canadians
didn't think we would ever agree on anything ?

It's well documented that the people furthest from the border, and least affected, are the ones making the biggest fuss - the people in Montana - and the Canadian prairies if you believe what we read on here.
