The trickle down effects of the beloved carbon tax are only exacerbating inflationary pressures for the plebs with no way to sidestep them. Carbon tax is a tax on existence. The gst is the fairest tax as essentials to existence and costs of business are exempt. Bitching about pst on insurance holds a weak argument as compared to carbon tax.

“Carbon tax is a tax on existence.” These 7 words sum it all up! The carbon tax comes into play in everything we do.

In 2022 the market prices for fossil energy source rose much more than the carbon tax and ran up prices for consumers and resulted in record windfall profits for oil companies and a massive world wide transfer of wealth to oil companies that dwarfed the impact of carbon pricing.

90% of the federal carbon tax directly paid by consumers are directly returned to consumers by the federal government.

Rising energy prices were the leading cause of inflation in 2022 in many industrial countries regardless of whether they have a carbon tax or not.

But the deniers never want to discuss the obvious elephant in the room. Instead they blame the carbon tax for everything.

And of course Moe and Smith are going to protect their friends and supporters in the oil industry. Fossil fuel producing provinces are looking at a future of declining revenues.

It will be a long transition and especially difficult if they don't plan for diversification of the economy especially in Alberta.

Former Prime Minister Steven Harper already acknowledged and accepted that Canada would have to stop using fossil fuels for energy by 2100. In the end it might take that long to get the job done.

The elephant in the room …. 90% of the carbon tax goes back to those who do not pay it .
Simply a wealth redistribution scheme , and you know it ..
Yup Harper was right , in 85 years from now maybe

SO brainiack, explain how that makes any phucking sense trying to change us away from oil/gas?

No pain to consumer so no GAIN in changing!

Tax BS, make work handling paper/emails.

Yes it will be a long slow painful transition to poverty which you socialists want for everyone. Right? There’s no future left here if you zealots get your way. You’re just sick and evil.

Sick and evil? And we want everyone to be poor too! LOL

So Harper is sick and evil for signing a G7 agreement that said Canada would stop using fossil fuels for energy by the year 2100? By your logic that would surely be the case.

I know there is no convincing the flat earthers that climate change is real and a massive threat to the planet and humanity.

But if you are going to call those who agree with the overwhelming science and the predictions of harm that will come as a result of human caused climate change sick and evil, you will lose what little credibility you had.

Chuck2, energy prices went up because demand exceeded supply. Demand exceeded supply due to government policies which have enacted regulations to suppress the exploration, production and sale of fossil fuels. So companies are spending far less on increasing or maintaining production. Why was Germany as an example so affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine? Because they put all their money on intermittent renewables backed up by natural gas, a good portion of which came from Russia. Oil companies are selling their product at the market price. Did you sell your wheat last year at $6 a bushel while other in your mind greedy farmers sold it for $12? I very much doubt it. Why don’t you left leaning supporters acknowledge that government policy is doing what you want, making energy expensive?! It is government padding the pockets of energy companies with their subsidization of unreliable energy sources!!!!

Supply and demand have been going up and down in the oil business for a variety of reasons for a long time without the impact of government regulation.

When prices drop drilling and production declines. When prices rise more drilling resumes.

OPEC has also been manipulating supply and prices as well. They recently cut production to keep prices higher because demand was slowing.

So if you want to point the finger at any government interfering in the oil market take a look at the members of OPEC.

I fear the unintended consequences on my children’s and grandchildren’s generations will be as impactful if not more than the climate change with no effect on the climate. Conspiracy theories aside and whether the science is right or wrong do you ever think it is foolhardy to fall on your sword for nothing?

Generations alive today are the first to see the effects of climate change. And they will be last generations that can do something about it .

Totally aside from any arguments on the effects Co2 is having on the climate, western economies can create debt and spend trillions with zero results.
60% of the emissions come from non participants.
That number will increase as we export our emissions to them as they see it as an opportunity to grow their economies and our politicians are happy with that as long as they look virtuous.
