Did you forget about The subsidies to Agriinvest, Agri Stability, Agri Revovery and Crop Insurance and other programs under the Canadian Agricultural Partnership?

And you don't wanna talk about the state controlled supply management programs that protect the dairy and poultry sector with import controls and a guaranteed cost of production formula that protects incomes?

All these subsidies and state controlled marketing boards are supported by the Conservatives including Crypto Polly.

if we could save the money in the good years without paying a huge amount of it in tax we could farm without a lot of them programes , and agri stability is useless , left that a long time ago

You know that vast majority of crop insurance money disappears into the provincial government’s coffers 90% of the time right ???
Have nothing to do with state controlled marketing boards . Swim on your own .
Also don’t forget the massive contribution to the economy that comes from farms every single year and tens of thousands of jobs and careers all from the hard work, time and effort from the soil and seeds we all plant each and every year . Far far outweighs the minor subsidies involved .

I will post this question to you Chuck. Not wanting any of your banter or crypto Poly and I won’t refer to you as socialist scum. For which I apologize if you think I was actually calling you that. So what do you being an NFU member think needs to be done with the organization to make a national body that represents Canadian farmers and not a circle jerk for a small subset of the agricultural community? If I sound condescending here I apologize but that is how I view the NFU and there would be potential with a body such as this for ag in general but it is so far off base for the vast majority of farmers nationally. Even the CFA is plumbed that way as well. Like it seems as if the NFU is so rooted in this leftist ideology that they cannot be pragmatic about issues affecting agriculture. Do you let just be and continue on its path into obscurity or do you allow it to adapt and let the ideology slide to actually represent the industry?

Name one organization that represents the views of all farmers? LOL

On Agrislly there is a lot of complaining and whining about everything, including all the commodity organizations because they don't represent "my particular point of view" or they don't do anything. How often have we heard that.

In a democracy there should be room for all points of view whether you agree with them or not.

And it shouldn't matter whether you are a large or small farm because there is a wide range of views from farms of all sizes.

Many of the farmers across the country are indeed smaller and medium sized farmers. Many with off farm jobs to help pay the bills.

Grains and oil seed farmers make up just 34% the farms. Beef and feedlots make up about 21% So the other half of farmers are something else.

Do you think grains, oil seeds and beef farmers should represent and speak for all the rest of farmers in Canada? The other 45% who grow fruit, vegetables, potatoes etc etc?

It’s simple they need those type of people to take to events and put on the news to spout their propaganda

I see you have been watching our prime minister's press conferences, and the emergency act inquiry. I still have my suspicions that Chuck might be a speech writer for Trudeau. If Trudeau ever says flat Earth lol, we will know for sure.

It’s bloody pointless wasting my time trying to have a civil discussion. I am making a point to tone down the vitriol and see how perhaps we can make a nation wide ag group appeal to the ag community in general. However, I see nothing has changed with NFU members. It’s them versus the big bad guys and anyone else who doesn’t ascribe to the ideology.

Wilton this is your attempt to tone down the rhethoric and have a civil discussion on the thread? LOL

"Sad but when the good old cbc needs an interview for an ag related topic who do they ask 80% of the time? Typical bunch of ]socialist scum. Jealous of people being successful and not sharing in their own private misery and hell." HUH?

When did you give up your "successful" career in public relations?

And you blame me for all the name calling? LOL

So you disagree with the NFU and all "socialist scum" as you call them. Who cares. Many of the regular posters on Agrislly don't even come close to representing reasonable and moderate conservatives. There are so many factions of conservatives that can't get along, why would you expect them to have a civil discussion with people they hate so much?

Farmers from coast to coast have many different points of views and they will never agree with the far right attitude of many Agrisilly posters.

So then sir how do you tone down the idealism in your organization so that you curb declining membership? I called them socialist scum because their stances on issues spit in the faces of many producers. We are all not seeding with one ways and using ccil combines, waiting on our final payment. I get why you stand where you do but like the old cowboy bitching about pasture and hay land getting broke up and the industry shrinking it is what it is. I can see potential for the NFU to be the advocate of small to mid size operations like mine, and even the large guys. You have the ear but I feel it gets squandered because of the idealism. It’s hard when an organization that represents farmers is anti gmo. Too many anti’s and not enough pro’s. I’m not wanting to be a dick to you here. Take it as more constructive criticism.
