    Brazil Judge Glyphosate Ban

    Strange days indeed!!

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-brazil-agriculture-chemicals/brazil-judge-suspends-use-of-agrochemical-glyphosate-idUSKBN1KR28Q https://www.reuters.com/article/us-brazil-agriculture-chemicals/brazil-judge-suspends-use-of-agrochemical-glyphosate-idUSKBN1KR28Q

SAO PAULO (Reuters) - A Brazilian judge has suspended the use of products containing the agrochemical glyphosate, a widely employed herbicide for soy and other crops in the country, according to legal filings.

A federal judge in Brasilia ruled that new products containing the chemical could not be registered in the country and existing registrations would be suspended within the next 30 days, until the government reevaluates their toxicology.

The decision, which could be subject to multiple appeals, also applies to the insecticide abamectin and the fungicide thiram.

The ruling affects companies such as Monsanto Co, which markets a glyphosate-resistant, genetically-modified type of soybean that is planted on a large scale in Brazil. Monsanto is now a unit of Bayer AG, following a $62.5 billion takeover of the U.S. seed major which closed in June.

Certain glyphosate-resistant corn and cotton strains have also been authorized in Brazil.

“I think the judge is wrong and that the decision will be revoked somehow,” said director Luiz Lourenço of agribusiness industry association Abag. “It is impossible to do agriculture without these products.”

Monsanto did not immediately respond to request for comment.

Brazil is the world’s largest exporter of soybeans, driven largely by growing demand from China.

Last month, a federal judge in the United States ruled that hundreds of lawsuits against Monsanto by cancer survivors or families of those who died can proceed to trial, finding there was sufficient evidence for a jury to hear the cases that blame the company’s glyphosate-containing weed-killer for the disease.

That'll be one to watch !

Could have massive production implications, impacting prices for global veggie oil.

Tree hugger's are blissfully ignorant of the concept of unintended consequences.

Ok then. What about Heat? People are using it too. Here peas get Diquat, flax gets glyphosate, everything else gets the sickle...call me old fashioned!

One judge in some small courtroom will not be shutting down Brazil's economy. Now if this were to happen here in Canuckistan, then I would worry. Only country stupid enough to do something like that is right here at home.

The major reason there is so much cancer is because people are living longer, they are developing and dying from cancer rather than something else getting them sooner.

I agree with furrow stickler on this topic...

Your grandmother's homemade loaf of bread wouldn't last 4 days on the cupboard without mold starting to grow on it(if the loaf wasn't eaten before then)..... now the "modern bought loaf" will sit on the cupboard for two weeks without mold growing... think about it.

And so much stuff is processed with preservatives that weren't used in the past. Salt and canning preserved most food years ago. Now? a list of chemicals.

Don't blame only primary ag production.

                          Exactly.

All these idiots pining for the good old days obviously don't want that part of the good old days where they would have died before they started school.

Refined sugar and shit processed diets is largest culprit of cancer. Cancer thrives on sugar, cut the sugar, cancer dies and the body metabolizes the damaged cells 1st through a process discovered in 2016 called autophagy. Ultralow carbohydrate diets and intermittent fasting is the way to turn back the clock.
