Some folks on here seem to have a lot of scapegoats for the financial state of things. I hardly think woke leftist university grads , Trudeau, or LGBTQ or even green
Energy initiatives, amount to 5% of the problem.
The US government did not print trillions and have low interest rates for their sake.
They did it to bail out the banks and financial institutions when their bets backfired.
They were socialized out of their troubles . At least if the poor had been socialized that money would have been recycled.
Instead it was pumped into the stock market and fed inflation.
The problem may well be socialism, but it's the socialism for the rich.

Plus I am sure when oil was worth nothing , I am quite sure a lot of you blamed the exact same bunch

Can you explain the long term benefit to the economy with your plan?

How does that help get us out of the downward spiral we are in? How does it help tax revenues? How does it improve productivity, and bring jobs back? How does it attract investment, or confidence in the currency?

If you read my posts, I disagree with subsidizing businesses of any size. I just want government to get out of the way and quit picking winners and losers.

Never happen. People get inti politics to pad their own pockets and those that support them.

Even on the municipal level it happens all the time. Anytime we see someone new on local municipal councils, the first question in everyone's mind is "what support is he/she looking for on the taxpayer's dime?".

My neighbor got on township council for one term, 10 years ago, just so he could force the township to clean out every foot of ditch that borders his property.

As it was told to me before by an ex-councilor, "People don't like change unless it directly benefits them."

You must have the lazy ones because the me-me pricks are the first ones in line for council. Get their projects completed on the taxpayer dime.

Might be a thankless job, but that is like any job. Each councilor here is paid several hundred a month for being on council.

UK officially admitted they are in-recession this week. Canada apparently is not in-recession. But in-reality, (outside politician and banker talk), Canada’s GDP has likely been negative for the past nine (9) months. My apologies for sarcasm, but it’s becoming a joke how hard the financial worldwide will not face economic reality.

The shorter list would be. What did they do right?

I for one and glad this is the fast moving incoming type of recession, at least this way, we can almost detect its movement. It has already taken 13 months since the thread was started, and still not quite technically defined as a recession. Good thing it wasn't the slow moving type, or we would have to put stakes in the ground ahead of it and measure like a glacier, just to make sure it really is still incoming.

Which doesn't change the inevitable end result, but it would have been an expensive wait, if one was prepared that early.

But, rest assured, that they know what they are talking about now, and are doing all the right things at this time, and won't possibility go too far the other way, and are being completely honest with us now.

Reminds me of some other important issues in recent years.

And what was/is the cause of this recession. Never forget a fake pandemic is at the root of whatever is coming our way and by our own behavior we have heled usher in the next paradigm.

We have crafted our own prison.

cyclical nature of the economy. Pandemic may have altered the timing and the depth, but not the direction.

Is it a coincidence that the people who said Western civilization was unsustainable are making it so?
