Details that have come out about the last minute demands made by American representatives at the trade negotiations brings into focus the fact the American government cannot be trusted. For now Western Canada will be fine as the Trump administration is playing a divide and conquer strategy and they need our oil. Easy for us out here to take the bait but this manifest destiny crap has been going since 1776. You hear that it is Trump directing all these insane moves but do not kid yourselves there are plenty willing accomplices. When he goes it will calm down but not go away. Even Democrats have some of the same machinations. I would have loved an integrated North American market but we can’t kid ourselves it just amounts to American imperialism in the end like we have just witnessed. Canada was previously a colony of the British empire and surprisingly in 1867 upon confederation John A and the first independent government got to building a railroad across the country because of the threat of American encroachment. The memories of 1812 and Fenian raids all too indelible.
