You would have to be a pretty small farm with a lot of debt to have a net worth lower than $520,000 in 2023 or in 2026.

No doubt, many farms are not profitable and lose money frequently. But net worth is measure of all assets minus liabilities.

It takes just one owned quarter of farmland in many parts of Saskatchewan to equal the median household net worth. In many cases less than one quarter.

Many Saskatchewan farms depend on union salaries with jobs in healthcare and education. Not to mention in potash and other mining jobs.

So i am just not sure how you can be so anti union when many of your neighbors and spouses are unionized and getting good salaries and benefits.

Some of the richest countries in the world are the nordic countries with high levels of unionization and great work life balance and good social programs.

But wanna be republicans like you seem to think letting the rich run everything for their own benefit and the workers can go to hell is the way the world should work.

The latest data (https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quotidien/241029/dq241029a-eng.htm) on household balance sheets come from Statistics Canada’s Survey of Financial Security (conducted in 2023).

Nationally, median household net worth reached $519,700 in 2023 (we use the “median” rather than the “average” because the former is a better approximation of the wealth of the typical household). Net worth was $218,000 in 2008 and rose to $361,000 by 2016. From 2016 to 2023, the typical Canadian household saw its wealth climb by 50 per cent—in the 15 years after 2008, the increase was almost 140 per cent. These wealth gains are calculated after stripping out the impact of inflation and suggest the average household has enjoyed an impressive boost in its “real” wealth, contrary to the impression conveyed in many media stories.

And Furrow are you losing so much money every year that your net worth is lower than the median Canadian at $500,000?

If so, you must be a pretty inept or unlucky farmer!
