Yup. The sovereign wealth fund is the same in name only.

One funded from surpluses the other by debt.

Moe said he thinks it a good idea.

It will attract more capital and investors.

Alberta has one based on oil revenue. Alaska as well.

Its called being fiscally conservative and investing for the future.

take a lesson from Norway! 1.7 Trillion!!

Is Carney planning on taking a bigger share of the west's resource income?
Kind of a National Energy Policy2.0?
More money from the west to create a slush fund to buy votes in the east?
Brookfield used money from sovereign wealth funds from various countries to build their ESG investment funds.
            Also Candian Pension plans.
Brookfield is always involved in Carney's big deals for Canadian taxpayer debt?

Is Moe wrong and its a bad idea? Why?

Carney is trying to attract investment from many investors in wealthy countries. There is a lot of money that thinks Canada is a great place to invest. The $25 billion is seed money.

If sovereign wealth funds are a bad idea why do some of the richest countries have them?

Why does Alberta have a heritage savings fund then?

Truth is Chuck, there is a lot of money that thinks Canada is no longer a great place to invest.
Carney has been working hard traveling the world promoting and signing anything that he can, but has had very little actual investment that wasn't already planned.
More investment is leaving Canada than is coming to Canada. That is an indisputable fact.
Even the office he set up to pick winners has nothing to do.
Bad government has made the place that has everything the world wants unable to get private investment.
So the government has to try get some way to do it with more debt for our grandkids to take on.
                  Lowest growth in the G7.

You never explained how this fund is the same as Norway.

It's not the same as Norway's. Never said it was.

But the principle is similar. Invest in a national fund that will create opportunities for future and current generations to build a resilient and diverse economy.

If private investment is declining then that is a strong argument for a sovereign wealth fund.

We have a lot the resources the world wants and needs.

Is Moe wrong? You still haven't said yes or no?

When Vassey asked Tim Hodgson if he thought Canada should let the huge investment in carbon capture hold up supplying the world with more oil in the current conditions he smirked at her and said Danielle Smith wanted it.

Just the way he smirked made me think of the hockey players that were caught with the gang r ape of the young girls. They used the same defence.
