Sadly a lot countries are using this war as a tec experiment . Drones are the new warrior in Ukraine run by so called nerds from bunkers. A strong defense that Russia can't win with old broken down tanks and Putin is running out of young men to send to there death. Makes you wonder if we will some day be over taken by an army that doesn't even send foot soldiers or 50 million dollar war jets. Wonder if China's drone factories are as big as the car factories.

Putin has whole units of N Koreans fighting in Ukraine.
Also Syrians and probably others who find the compensation pkg attractive.
Story is large parts of Russia it's traditional to send sons to the military as that's the best opportunity available.
The family gets some kind of bonus like a new car if the son comes home in a box.
The technocrat in Carney must see the foreign fighters as a simpler system.
Maybe we can send some Haitians or Samolis to Ukraine in Canadian uniforms?

Russia has for the most part accomplished its objectives. The areas that were ethnically Russian are now part of Russia. Now they have to secure the new border and eliminate the drone attacks. It is amazing how many of them they shoot down in an average night. It was never the plan to take over all the territory of the Ukraine so they are moving slowly and surgically. Unfortunately the gubmint of northern shithoistan has wasted billions of the next generations wealth in the Ukraine for not. If there is any justice, they will collect that money back from turd and carnage.Comment

Putin is war criminal and an authoritarian thug who kills political opponents and threatens NATO countries with nuclear war.

My first cousin spent 12 years in Crimea as a missionary most of 80s part of 90s lots of interesting stories observations. But one comment think all will agree with Russia does not care one bit about ethnic crimean Russians Ukrainians who live or did live in Crimea its about it geographic position in Black Sea nothing more nothing less. The whole conflict everyone forgets that Putin cares about no one just power. But yes it's a money funnel.Comment

Crimea was Russian for 150 years before 1954, 600 years Ottoman...quite a ethnic mix, change displaced many no doubt.
When 1939 chunk of Poland changed to Ukraine, some family there moved west from Ternopol.
