Just an example of what happens in a for profit Healthcare. Only one we can compare. Not really about politics. You brought up private Healthcare versus public. There are other questions for your system. Such as are the same doctors and auxiliary staff servicing both systems and are they paid the same. Do they use the same facilities and hi tech equipment? Does running two systems side by side increase total costs?Originally posted by Landdownunder View Post

you cant do phone consults???Originally posted by farmaholic View PostShould every prescription refill require a visit to the doctor's office? Especially long established prescriptions in a patient's stabilized health condition?
Shouldn't regular blood work lab tests and some other tests have requisitions given to the patient at their last doctor office visit instead of requiring another appointment just to get the requisition?
There needs to be efficiencies built into the system. Not all health-care abuse is patient based.

My cholesterol medication prescription expired, pharmacy extended it one month. I called Dr's. office, tell them the situation and ask if the Dr would prescribe another year without an appointment. Nope, Dr hasn't seen you in a year. Because we can view our own lab results online, I know my test results are good. So I needed to make an appointment, I called Oct, 31st..... first opening is December 11th.Originally posted by Landdownunder View Post

What if I really needed to see the Dr for something serious? Their reply is to go to the emergency room(or Sask's Urgent Care Center now that one is open in Regina) So there you go, and if it isn't a true emergency but is still something that can't wait 5 and a half weeks.... "there" you sit in the ER triage queue.
Broken
p.s., I was given a blood work requisition the last time I saw the Doc. Test results provide reference ranges for the patient to compare their results to.Last edited by farmaholic; Nov 16, 2025, 19:42.

Sorry, that just sounds like the vet system to me and not terribly unreasonable Lol
Vet needs to see a pet once a year for a physical, prescriptions are 12 months worth so that they can reevaluate once a year.
A GP wanting to see a patient annual isn’t something we should be aiming to eliminate. Maybe they just need to mail you a postcard with puppies and kittens on it reminding you it’s time to book an annual visit?

Good question will ask questions when im in hospital in dec.
Mixed bag I think some surgeons operate at both but get there is a list of scheduled fees that they can charge above of course private they always charge max possible. Facilities no private hospitals have own equipment as do public, staff again seperate staff, my daughter in law just started as ER nurse will ask her but my belief alot of training trainers first year nurses in public hospitals whereas private pick and choose who they employ daughter in law says you need slightly higher level to get into private hospital nursing and pay is usually above award rate. Increased costs cant answer that one I pay more for private of course because of premiums but pay for privilege of short wait lists so if I wanted absolute cheapest would go on govt tit for health care but the trade off as mentioned so yesterday its more expensive for me.
This is my opinion maybe not 100% gospel. Hope it helps.
