That’s a cop out for reasonings against separation.

Doesn't matter how extensive, legitimate, or probable the difficulties are for separation, people say “nobody said it would be easy” like it’s guaranteed to be worthwhile if you just power through the hardship.

How do you actually see it working? Do you see Canada and America being reasonable trade and negotiation partners? Do you see the population being stable and supportive? Do you see Alberta actually getting its way in all the things the separatists claim we would be reaping the rewards of?

Was thinking about grain markets. How would AB market their grain it would no longer be classed as CW so how would the ports co-mingle and handle in the terminals. Are the Head Offices that are in MB and SK going to bin and sell separately? Guess all wheat could go as General Purpose.

It is an irrelevant question. Manitoba and Saskatchewan would do the math on what their fair share of the tax bill will be if they remain in the country, and will join Alberta before breakfast.

Grain, livestock... anything under CFIA would no longer be under CFIA which would leave room for markets to become unconvinced with the standards of our production. Same wheat, same beef, same pork... could all be bought at a lower price with the excuse that they are not confident in our regulations. No CGC oversite, who's to say the grading is the same standard.

Knowing elevators, they'd buy it as general purpose for a fraction of the price, and then just blend it in with the regulated stuff and make money on it. It would pretty much become a country that produces cheap CNHR Haha

SGS has a better rep in a lot of cases.

SGS doesn’t create the quality standards. They just grade based on the standard they’re given by the CGC (and CFIA).

There would be no way that they could use the grade names that we have now. CW is Canadian Western CP is Canadian Prairie. The USA even tho grow same varieties and might have same qualities can't sell as CW.

                  OMG?

You think guys that are buying boatloads of grain every day from people they talk to regularly won't know what they are buying because it doesn't have a C in the description?

Not that at all, you are missing the point. Who is going to write and enforce the quality of each class of wheat and other grains. We would have to start from scratch and reclass or do you think Canada would just say here go use our 100 yrs of Research and development just put your own name on it all and sell into our markets as our competition? Not sure if that would work.

                      Yes, that would work.

                      Doesn't require a huge bureaucracy.

                      The people are already there.
