          Trump is an economic nationalist. I don’t think economic nationalism is either right wing or left wing politically. Joe Biden also preached America first and dictated that the government purchase from American suppliers. As for tariffs, they are a tool not a political ideology and in this case they will result in higher costs for Americans and lower growth for most countries in the world.

            The simple response is the Doug Ford is certainly not a Conservative imo. Is a lefty, nope, I would classify him as a traditional Liberal, so in theory a centrist.

              Biden didn’t rescind most of the tariffs Trump put on in his first term. Up here our governments procurement didn’t follow suit with a buy Canadian policy. I just couldn’t figure it out, but now they twigged on. Slow learners. Americans want their cake and eat it too. Doesn’t matter who the potus is, this trend we are on will only continue for the time being. Doesn’t mean we have to get snippy with the yanks but we know full well we better get serious about actually doing something to diversify trade and fix our own shitshow at home. Trump is the best thing to happen to Canada since Hitler.

                Thug ford is a lefty. He is a member of the 'progressive' conservatives, whatever that is. Anyways, thug ford thinks that the US should allow in morontariowe's exports unfettered while he maintains restrictions and barriers to US exports. That, according to president Trump, is no longer good enough. That is a very logical position. Supply management is only one example of this.

                  How does that compare with Carney's special projects list?

                    I get the impression that everyone opining on the US/Canada trade situation either ignores or pretends not to realize that Canada has been allowed to exist and trade at the mercy of our behemoth southern neighbor.

                    That period has ended.

                    It isn't coming back no matter who is in the White House.

                    The goal now is to break Canada economically and to divide us with infighting. Then pick up the worthwhile pieces.

                    We are playing right into their strategy.
