Farmers have it better than most Canadians? Most Canadians won’t do what we do it’s almost impossible finding someone that’s willing to work 160 hours a month let alone 400, the list is endless.

Huh?

Jim Stanford says the per capita GDP measure is a "deeply flawed" way to measure the standard of living and explains why.

He also says Canada needs to improve it's economy.

But your absurd claim is this is that is the same as firing the statistician who produced a poor job results that Donny didn't like? LOL

That is a lame excuse from you that contains no logic!

In the real world, we can't ignore some of the ratios our accountant and banker value.

Have you tried telling your banker that the way they measure debt to equity is not equitable?
Tell them you want to measure it Chuck's way, that will be more fair

Huh?

Read what Jim Stanford says on the subject. If you disagree with his points show us the numbers! Instead you waste a lot of time with nothing posts off the topic!

The top 2 paragraphs explain why GDP per capita is a flawed measure.

Jim Stanford

"Prosperity depends not just on how much is produced, but how it is distributed. Bank of Canada research shows most of the U.S. advantage in per capita GDP is concentrated among high-income earners.

Three-quarters of the gap in per capita output is captured by higher incomes for the top 10 percent of Americans. There is little difference in incomes between the bottom 90 percent in the two countries.

The richest 10 percent of Americans receive almost half (https://wid.world/data/) of all pre-tax income, so their wealth significantly inflates the overall per capita average.

In fact, most Canadian workers earn higher wages than those in the U.S. It is most accurate to measure typical incomes by the median wage (the halfway point in a distribution), not the average (which can be distorted by very high incomes at the top).

The median hourly wage in Canada in 2023 was Cdn $28.79 or US$24.61 at the OECD’s purchasing power parity exchange rate.

The median hourly wage (https://www.bls.gov/oes/2023/may/oes_nat.htm) in the U.S. in 2023 was US$23.11. The typical Canadian worker thus earned 6.5 percent more than their U.S. counterpart, despite lower per capita GDP.

Perhaps surprisingly, the Canadian worker also paid a lower marginal federal tax rate (20.5 percent for full-time workers) than their U.S. counterpart (22 percent (https://taxfoundation.org/data/all/federal/2023-tax-brackets/)).

Of course, public services, not just private incomes, are also important to living standards. Canada’s more extensive health care, public education and other services enhance the quality of life in ways not captured by per capita GDP.

For example, eight percent of Americans have no health insurance and one-quarter are underinsured (facing out-of-pocket costs that force many to skip needed care). That takes much of the shine off a higher GDP.

For all these reasons, it is clear the typical Canadian has a higher standard of living than the typical American. We are healthier (https://www.commonwealthfund.org/publications/fund-reports/2024/sep/mirror-mirror-2024), live three years longer (https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/field/life-expectancy-at-birth/country-comparison/), face much less inequality (https://ourworldindata.org/economic-inequality) and are happier (https://data.worldhappiness.report/table)."

Since Canada is falling behind our peers by all accepted measures of GDP, you found someone who redefines GDP to make the situation not look so dire.
If you can't win the game, change the rules. Move the goal posts.

You must be one of those kids who has always gotten a participation medal. Just keep lowering the standards so everyone can be a winner.

We are not falling behind the US by many measures! Get it yet?

Show us your numbers that says Stanford is wrong or give up!

Go have a look Chuck.
They are just like us in many ways.
Friendly too.
Some ways they aren't like us.
Not all bad or good either.

Be respectful and friendly and it will come back to you.

Having a job and earned income gives you respect from others and for yourself.
That is very easy to see.

Redefining GDP because Canada's numbers are so dismal, is equivalent of the participation award Chuck gets in his t-ball league.

All the other little kids got a prize for hitting a ball or catching a ball or running the right direction or sportsmanship. Little Chuck threw a temper tantrum about not getting an award, so the adults invented a new category and finally gave him an award for not picking his nose and eating it for one entire inning while playing far left field
