At one of my first jobs, one of the old guys ( he was like 30...), gave me some advice to live by. At the time it didn't make much sense to me.
He said believe half of what you see and none of what you hear.
This was before the internet or social media was a thing.

Eventually realized it was very good advice. Although I expect the situation is much worse in the internet era.

Growing up around horse people trading horses the same maxim held true except believe a third of what you see. Ace and bute cover up a lot of bad shit.
