Trevor Tombe evidently isn’t much of an economist. He does not qualify his opinions by emphasizing the fact that there are consequences to taxes due to1. Multiplier Effect and 2.Crowding-Out. Furthermore economists tend to disregard the fact that unfair taxes cause psychological distress. These unfair taxes are imposed on innocent targets that have no way to avoid the extra costs. This continuous stress has far-reaching consequences on families when costs of everything are increasing. People interviewed wonder why they are being punished in a country that causes no damage to the atmosphere and has no effect on carbon levels while the countries who are Carbon producers expand their Carbon producing industries yet they have no taxes. We are the sacrificial lambs for no good end.

The official rate of inflation in Canada 2.8%. so, if the CO2 tax is causing .6% inflation, then that is 21% of inflation coming from the CO2 tax. And it just went up will be higher than that now.
A lot of these statistics are purposefully misleading. They are aimed at the low information crowd such as Chuck who don't understand how simple concepts such as percentages work.Last edited by AlbertaFarmer5; Apr 11, 2024, 20:54.

Inflation causes:
Housing prices, higher commodity prices including energy, supply chain disruption during covid, and yes the inflationary effect of government spending which is the same in many developed countries including while Trump bailed out the economy.
And the carbon tax impact, 6/10ths of 1 percent!

You guys sure can't stay focused for very long!
Multiple sources have shown that the carbon tax is only a very small source of inflation.
Trevor Tombe at the U of C calculated the indirect effects as well and they are similar to Sylvain Charlebois estimates of 0.6 %, well less than 1%.
So what about the causes of the other 3.2% of current inflation?
Not even close to the bogus claims Crypto makes about the carbon tax! What a liar!
And all we get is crickets!

Why do we even have to debate the carbon tax?
If you think little old Canada can change weather all by itself with its stupid carbon tax then your delusional!

If true that should be all over the news. I'm sure there's bureaucratic excuse why they couldn't have been donated somewhere.
