And thanks to the chinook, woke up this morning November the 10th to 13° above zero.

I took those pictures yesterday evening just before supper, it was starting to get cold. Went home had supper came back after supper to work a few more hours and ended up taking all my winter clothes off it was warming up so fast.

Prevailing wind that comes down the leeward side of the mountains and is part of adiabatic warming.

Called Foehn winds in Europe.

While they do technically cover a large area here, there's only a few of us on the forum that are right in the Chinook zone, and I don't know that any of us are in the really strong area to the south. Not that it has to be really strong to completely destroy the snow, as AB's photos show. The Blackfoot called the winds "snow eater".

When I worked down by Crossfield I would get massive headaches from them, but an hour away at home, I'm far enough north and east that the wind and pressure is here, but the headaches are less common.

We rarely get the strong winds, just Chinook arch of clouds on the horizon and drastic warming. And I nearly always get a headache.

Not entirely unheard of to warm up 30 to 40 degrees C or even more within a day.

Our winter time weather forecast is quite often indicate an abnormal temperature trend as the temperature warms up overnight instead of cooling off as would be expected.



They are rarely long enough or strong enough to melt all of our snow, like they do down south. But we also get a lot more snow to start with

We are quite literally on the edge of the Chinook belt.
The school division next to 2 hours is called chinook's edge.

Our old Baker 6.5' blade was on a wooden derrick with a pump house built around it. Circa...late 30s before power in the early 50s.
Tore it down 25 years ago.
Put it on an old metal tower of different lineage. Stayed short for simplicity. Display only.
Glad I got it off the list finally today.
And I learned a lot which is always cool.
The simplicity and timelessness hard to appreciate today.
Unfurled, they need little breeze.
HP requirements for different wells amd pumps kinda defies the greenies today.
Will blast and paint some Beatty pumps for it.
Also our Beatty hay trolley from our old barn, also in the catalog, with forks next year. Have slings too.
I have the old catalogs etc, I dunno, I like research , authentic.
If nothing else it's a story to be remembered by.
The world before electricity is fascinating but glad all I have to do is read about it.
